Sappy Magee

I am such a sap right now. Man, it's absurd. I think it's expected, though, given the events of the past few weeks.

So, Friday night was my grandfather's visitation. It was actually really great. A lot of people were there showing support and it meant a lot to our family. I imagined that it was going to be pretty difficult, but it was very pleasant.

The funeral was absolutely beautiful. I spoke and, although I had a difficult time deciding what I'd say, the words came to me on Friday night. If you'd like to see the tribute I wrote, let me know. That isn't a ploy or a friendship test, by the way; I just don't really feel like shoving it down your throats.

I have to say that I've never felt comfortable in a cemetery until Saturday. I think there are many factors that contribute to that. The casket was draped with an American flag and military people were there giving a final salute and playing "Taps" (I didn't know the name of it until just now, but it is beautiful). Aside from some difficulty folding the flag into a triangle, it was perfect. Honestly, though, the folding debacle made it even better. The weather was amazing and the sun was shining!

Here is a photograph of the flag:

Hmm, what else? On Sunday, the family celebrated Easter at Gran's house and that was nice. I wasn't the most endearing person to be around since I was feeling pretty exhausted by that point, but it was great to get to see my other side of the family. After the Easter celebration, I came home and exercised in an attempt to clear my mind and freshen up my mood.

Then, I ended the weekend by heading to my other grandmother's house to spend the night with her so she wasn't alone. We hadn't had any one-on-one time in quite a while, so it was nice to visit with her and lend her an ear as she adjusts to her new life without my grandfather.

This is really dorky, but I stumbled upon something that made me really excited last night. I had been looking through a lot of photo albums last week because I was asked to pick out the photographs for the slide show at the visitation. I looked through a lot of pictures of my grandparents' trips to all different places like China, Australia, Italy, etc. However, last night I ran into a photo album of random pictures my grandfather took. It's funny because I remember him having a disposable camera at Christmas a few years back. In this album, there were several pictures of us (at Christmas) that he'd taken with the disposable camera. However, the rest of the disposable camera consisted of pictures he'd taken of geese at the lake. It's the same journey he was on when he died last week. It was really neat because I was a little too far removed from the pictures of faraway places, but the geese pictures were so simple and documented something meaningful to me; it was almost like I was walking right there with him. I took two of the pictures -- one he took from the bridge of the geese swimming (you can see his finger in the photo), and one of the geese crossing the sidewalk right in front of him. They were so amateur and I love them because it's like viewing everyday life from his eyes. How long can I talk about some photos of geese? You tell me.

Today I returned back to work and, although I really hadn't been gone, it felt like it. I was greeted by tons of termites running rampant on the carpet outside of my office. I didn't notice them at first because I got to work so early and didn't turn on the light in the hallway. However, a little while later, I looked at the carpet and realized it was like an optical illusion. Seriously. The carpet looked 3D like a Magic Eye puzzle. Are you grossed out yet? I spent the rest of the morning being paranoid that they were crawling on me and, after the Orkin man came and said they were coming up through the floor, the folks in my suite called it a day and headed home. Ugh, I shouldn't be thinking about this so close to bedtime. I'm gonna dream of termites bringing me donuts.

Well, it's about to become my birthday if anyone's counting. I've set a goal for Drew's Crew to raise $2,500 on my birthday. I gave us a tiny head start because I was getting impatient. If you'd like to contribute to the cause, first let me commend you for making it this far in this novel of a post. Secondly, here is the link: http://www.cff.org/great_strides/drewdotson5267.

I want to thank everyone who has shown me some love over the past several days; it has really helped.

Hello, bed of mine! How I've missed thee!

Well, well, well...

What do we have here?

So, I know I just got impatient and posted a blog in mid-thought. So sue me! Tuesday didn't quite go as expected, but that seems to be the norm these days. I had an 8:00 a.m. meeting to discuss the CF center communications plan I've been crafting. The highlight of that meeting was DUNKIN' DONUTS! No, I didn't have a white powdered donut, but I did have a regular donut with chocolate frosting. As I was leaving the meeting to walk down the street to my office, I decided to have one more donut. So, with a notebook in one hand and a donut in the other, I shamelessly strolled down the sidewalk.

I went to Willy's like usual and, on the way back from lunch, my mom texted me and asked me to call her. I tried and she didn't answer, but she called me shortly after I walked back into my office. She told me that my grandfather died. Now, given that he's the healthiest he's been in several years, I was in absolute shock. I literally started bawling hysterically -- that cry when you're sobbing faster than you can breathe. I had my office door shut, but it only took moments to get a knock asking if everything was okay. I was practically in the midst of a panic attack. I started babbling incoherently and couldn't really get it together. I had a meeting a few minutes later and, for some unknown reason, I decided that the best thing to do was to proceed like normal. I pretty much sat there in a daze for an hour.

After the meeting, I decided to head home to try to gather my thoughts. As I was about to hop on the highway, my mom called and let me know that people were heading from the hospital back to my grandmother's house. I turned my car around and started making my way to her place. When I arrived there, some workers were talking to my grandmother and aunt, telling them some of the last jokes my grandfather made. [For example, a worker passed him and was pushing two carts, and he suggested that the worker better be getting paid double.] I then heard the story of what happened...

My grandparents live at a retirement community with a big lake. My grandfather loves (loved? I never know when to make that transition in tense.) walking around that lake. He went on one of his usual walks and sat down on a bench. Supposedly he had an exchange with a lady and she continued walking, and the next thing she knew, folks were running over to help him, but he was simply gone. The ambulances came and couldn't really get a pulse; they believe he had a heart attack. They took him to the hospital, but couldn't bring him back. I have to say that, of all the ways to go, it sounds so perfect to be doing one of your favorite pastimes, sitting on your favorite bench, enjoying a beautiful Spring day. Although the initial shock was very difficult, I am so thankful that he had such a painless death.

It was ironic, too, because I used to always try to wear purple when I was going to see him. I don't own all that much purple, but I knew he liked it when I wore purple. On Tuesday, I happened to put on a purple shirt and, when my mom informed me of his death, my purple shirt was one of the first things to cross my mind. I'm going to be speaking at the funeral, and I'm still thinking of what all I'm going to say. It's all been a little difficult to digest, but I'm feeling very at-peace with the whole thing.

I'm at my parents' house right now; it feels good to be home. I will leave you with a sight that made me laugh uncontrollably. One might think it seems insensitive, but my grandfather was quite the comedian, so I think he'd appreciate this photograph of a nutritious meal...

P.S. I saw another car accident yesterday. I was on foot and it was 15 feet away (at most). Shudder.

Unfinished business

Well, this weekend was pretty nonstop. The festival was fun and I think people enjoyed our performance. It was difficult to focus with so much going on around me, so it's good to have that knowledge for future off-site performances. We only did one set of improv, and I played Buzzer Debate and Meet the Experts.

I then went and hopped on the MARTA train to go meet some friends for the concert. I have to say that I was not prepared for how cold it was going to get. Thankfully I ran into some other friends who had a blanket. Thanks to my hood, I didn't have my entire head under the blanket like some of my counterparts!

I'm posting this because I started it a few days ago and feel like changing subjects. This is my blog and I do what I want. The timestamp will show when I started this, but it is actually almost 9:30 p.m. on Thursday by now...

Whoa-oh-oh-oh-ohhhhh. How sweet it is!

Helloooo. I don't know why I am staying up so late when I have such a big day tomorrow. Perhaps it's the silly in me.

My friend Brian died on Wednesday night. I received the notification at 12:04 a.m. Needless to say, Thursday was a very challenging day. I was overwhelmed, though, by the support from my friends and family. Although it's very hard to know someone has lost the battle with CF, it's also refreshing to know that he lived a life that should make him proud.

Thursday was a big mass email day and involved interviewing candidates, so there was a lot going on and very little time to process the news. It kind of amazed me how well I was able to contain myself when necessary, but how shameless I was in the brief stints alone in my office. I honestly think that my composure, even in tough situations, has really been enhanced by improv. When it's time to perform, I have to rid myself of everything going on outside of the theater so that I can go on stage with a clean slate. I feel like I handled it all so gracefully, which is a lot for good ol' "macaroni water" me.

The big whammy is that I performed in a show Thursday night, too. So, having had probably 25 tiny tear outbursts throughout the day, several interviews to sit in on, and a huge technical failure day with our mass email tool (WHAT A TOOL!), it amazed me how well I was able to compartmentalize it for the duration of the show. I felt like I had a really great show, and I think it's a result of all of the emotion circulating in my body.

I got to do several new(ish) and exciting things: I was the therapist for Emo Couples Therapy, I commentated for Slow-Mo Sports Commentary (I think that was the name), I played Oscar Musical, I was a caller in Phones, and I played Musical Styles. It was also my friend's birthday (BA) and he was in the show, so there was great energy among the entire cast. Fun times! It was such a positive end to a day that started so painfully.

Today has been a nonstop day. I was still troubleshooting yesterday's technical issues, but I got everything finished. I got some groceries, too, which I'd needed to do all week. I also went to the bank. I had a crew shift tonight at the theatre and, since I was running super early, I had time to stop at Marshalls on my way. I got an orange shirt and some teeny tiny boat shoes. They're navy, red, and white, and they are now named "My Braves Shoes."

Well, tomorrow I have a ton to do... like perform at a festival and go see Tim McGraw. It's going to be exhausting, but I really can't wait. I'm going to try to exercise, too, so I better get to sleep. When did it become so late? Geez!

Thank you again to everyone who reached out to me on Thursday. Here's another way you can help: http://www.cff.org/great_strides/drewdotson5267.

Don't lose faith

One last thing: I just got an update about Brian (my friend from CF camp) and he is having a very difficult time.

I'm wishing the best for his family.

Man, this is tough.

Macaroni water

This morning I spilled macaroni water on my pants. That's what I get for soaking the macaroni pot and forgetting about it. I promise you macaroni water has a smell.

In other news, I accidentally filled my car with gas while it was running.

My senseless mistakes are usually few and far between, but they are running rampant this week. I think that's a symptom of being over-meetinged. I'm on a hiring committee at work, and I think more than four hours of meetings/interviews in one day is my tipping point. And I just finished my third day of it.

Last night I had a weird dream. It was one of those dreams that is so freaky that you feel like people will judge you for having it. Have you ever been in a bad dream and, in the dream, you're praying that it's just a dream? It was one of those. That probably sounds like nonsense to everyone who hasn't experienced that. Thankfully I woke up!

Well, my CF doc visit didn't go as well as I'd hoped, but it wasn't too bad -- just disappointing for an overachiever.

It's bedtime, world. Here's to good dreams!

SUNday

Welcome to Sunday!

My roommate just walked in with groceries and it reminded me that I still want a donut. I actually had a dream last night that I was eating a white powdered donut at my grandmother's house (although it wasn't her actual house). It's sad that I've let this become such an issue.

I'm about to be angry at the Braves. I went to the home opener on Friday night and the Braves won. The rest of the weekend hasn't been quite as pleasant for them. It ain't over 'til it's over, though, and they have two more at-bats today. COME ON, BOYS!

What else? Well, tomorrow is back-to-work day. I was on vacation last Monday through Wednesday, and I telecommuted on Thursday and Friday of last week. I wish I could say I wasn't going to be in a billion meetings this week, but I'd be lying if I said that. Also, my boss's last day was last Monday (SURPRISE VACATION PHONE CALL!), so things are going to be a little insane tomorrow.

One at-bat left. Don't get me started.

The Phillies just got a triple. Don't get me started.

The Phillies just scored a run. I have started.

I worked a crew shift at the theatre last night. I enjoyed the shows and devoured a piece of cake, so I'd deem the night a success.

Well, it's time to write some thank you emails to the latest Drew's Crew supporters. My fundraising team has raised $14,701 online. We're in the mid-campaign slump, so I'm expecting us to pick up the pace in the next couple of weeks. Go team!

Okay. I'm gonna post this before the Braves' last at-bat.

Have a swell Monday!

Get da kid some gummy bears

Hi! This post won't be a worthwhile read, so that's my fair warning.

My mom and I are watching The Bucket List. I like this movie because there are so many quotations that resonate with me. I've only seen it once all the way through, but I'm enjoying it again. It's pretty hilarious. I'm proud because I haven't fallen asleep yet...

Drew's Crew has raised more than $14K to cure CF, so I'm very thrilled with my team. Keep it coming!

I'm at the beach in case anyone was wondering.

The Braves just lost, so that sucks. I was really hoping they'd pull through with a come-from-behind win, but the Braves obviously had a different plan.

I'm still thinking about how I wish I had a donut -- preferably a white powdered one. I almost got some at the store, but the smallest package had 16 mid-sized donuts. I don't need to get involved in all of that!

I'm hoping for a sunny day tomorrow. We had a windy one today.

It's almost bedtime. Let the dreams begin!

Turn off the lights. WHOA-WHOA.

Do you ever find yourself thinking 'Hey, it's 11:00 p.m., I have a migraine, and I need to be up for the dentist in less than eight hours?' Me too.

Well, the highlight of my day was having a piece of regular coffee cake from Starbucks. I've been craving bakery-esque items ever since a bakery-related question on Family Feud yesterday. Right now I would love to eat one mini powdered donut and one mini chocolate-covered donut.

Guess what? Drew's Crew broke the $12K barrier today. I honestly can't even believe it; it's very humbling.

What else? I just got home from improv rehearsal (OXYMORON!) a little while ago. We worked on guessing games. It was fun!

So, I've passed the accident site a few times this week and it makes me shudder thinking about it -- especially when I see the falling-down wall and the twisted-up guard rail. It brings back a lot of unpleasant memories. I drive that route enough that I'm sure I will be desensitized soon, but in the meantime...SNAP.

I guess it's about that time. My teeth need their beauty sleep. Happy last-day-of-March tomorrow!

Feelin' lucky

This weekend has me feeling very fortunate. I'm lucky to know the people that I know and to have the support that I have. Drew's Crew is about to hit $10,000 online, which is well beyond where I expected to be at this time. It's especially surprising because the team is still forming and I haven't put a heavy emphasis on fundraising yet. It's really refreshing to see so many people standing behind me and my cause. Let's cure CF! http://www.cff.org/great_strides/drewdotson5267

Now, for the insane part... As I mentioned in yesterday's post, it was my friend BB's birthday. After I finished working my crew shift at the theatre, a group of us went out to celebrate. We went to a bar in Midtown and did some people watching and things of that nature. When we called it a night, my roommate and I got in my car so I could drive us home since I was the DD (double meaning!).

We were chatting and driving on 400 when I saw a car weaving in my rearview mirror. I was in the center lane of the three-lane highway. It looked like it was about to barrel into the back of my car, and it startled me to the point of yelling. Before I could even realize what was happening, I saw the headlights jerk to the left and I started to brake. The SUV then looked to have lost control and headed toward the cement wall that acts as a median. When the car was literally feet from crashing into the wall, the driver must have spun the wheel to the right, and the SUV crossed directly in front of us (perpendicular to the way of traffic). Thankfully, I was shocked into braking, but a car in the far right lane didn't see this happening and we watched the SUV barrel right into the driver's side door of a truck.

Debris went flying like rain onto our car, and both the truck and the SUV started spinning. I slammed on the brakes so hard that we started to fishtail and head straight for the cement wall/SUV that was bouncing off of the wall. How we made it between the two spinning cars without getting hit is beyond me. It was truly like our lives flashed before our eyes. Both scared speechless and shaking like crazy, I tried to make my way to the side of the road as AH called 911. As AH was fielding questions from the 911 dispatcher, I saw the SUV start to reverse (it ended up facing the wrong direction after bouncing off the wall and back toward the shoulder).

The SUV then started riding up the shoulder behind us and I was hopeful that they were turning around to move the car out of the way and wait for the cops. However, given my experience two months ago, I knew better than to trust that someone would do the right thing. I started yelling that the car was leaving and tried to remember how to put my car in drive. As the SUV went by, I yelled out the first three letters of the license plate, but we were both so shocked that neither of us were functioning to the best of our abilities. When I got the car going, I started trying to follow the SUV. The car got off at the first exit so I started to follow, but I'm positive that they could tell that's what I was doing. The person started (or continued) driving like a maniac. For example, we started to get in a left turn lane right behind them at a red light, and they instinctively got out of the turn lane so they could have a green light and cut across three more lanes of traffic to make a quick right-hand turn. At this point, we realized that catching them was hopeless (and probably dangerous), so we decided to head back down the highway to turn around and get back on heading toward the accident.

When we got back to the scene, people were standing outside of their cars and the truck looked even worse than I'd envisioned. There were items from the bed of the truck on the highway and the whole right side of the truck was practically touching the ground. The tailgate was on the other side of the totaled guard rail, and the metal sound barrier past the guard rail was torn up, too. I was relieved to see that the driver's door was opened and that everyone was standing. We then realized who the driver must have been because there was a lady who was clearly in shock and very emotional.

The cop finally arrived a few minutes after we made it back and, once again, I became the witness to a hit and run. The cop said I would be the primary witness since I was in the middle of it and had seen everything happen. He said that I could expect to hear from the detective regarding the case. I wonder if it will be my same detective friend; I'm quite the magnet! As the cop was getting my number, another group of witnesses started trying to make a love connection, but the cop wasn't having any of that.

I couldn't sleep when we finally got home (after 3:30 a.m.) because it was one of those moments that makes you think about how your life can change in a split second. As my roommate and I walked through the grocery store today, all we (mainly I) could talk about was how that could have played out differently. It's times like these when I think about some angels I know who are breathing easy and looking after me. It was such a frightening experience, and I really can't even put into words how grateful we both feel today.

It makes me think about life and, despite the health battles that I face, I'm not exempt from anything. That was one of the scariest things I've ever seen, and I'm amazed that we were so lucky. It's just a reminder that you can do everything right, but you can't control the crazy things that other people might do. There's obviously no need to live a life of fear, but there's a need to live a life that makes you proud.

Love you all.

26

Hi! Today is my friend BB's birthday, which means it's exactly one month until mine. We are 26 twins!

I performed improv on Thursday night. The crowd was unusually rowdy for a Thursday, but they stood up at the end, so that was cool. I played Buzzer Talk Show (as Willy Nilly), Foreign-Dubbed Soap Opera (on stage), Repeat Scene Direction, ABC Buzzer Beatnik Poetry, and Oscar Musical Styles. I felt good about my performance.

I just ate a PowerBar and realized they smell like dog.

I'm about to go work out. I ran three miles yesterday, so I'm feeling pretty motivated. Go Drew!

Speaking of Drew (what a bad segue), Drew's Crew has been killing it! We have topped $7,500 and are way outpacing ourselves compared to last year. I'm so thankful for all of my walkers!

I can't believe it's almost April and I dated something with the year 2010 yesterday. Get it together!

There's a long day a'brewin'! I guess it's time to get out of bed!

Little Miss

Here I am... I'm once again surprised at how much time has elapsed since I last wrote. It makes me a little concerned that I'm not stopping to smell the roses, but perhaps instead I should embrace that I'm packing my days to the brim.

The ENT went pretty well. He said that my sinuses looked pretty good, and he attributed it to the antibiotic that I've been taking. He also recommended allergy testing to help treat my absurd allergies, but we're not doing that until summer because he said the testing (and the lack of allergy meds leading up to the testing) could make for a real miserable time. So, more on that in June...

I didn't do anything for St. Patrick's Day other than send a ton of mass emails and wear a very gray shade of green. I needed a relaxing night in, and that's exactly what happened.

Friday afternoon I went to lunch with an old friend (BS), so that was a lot of fun. We got to catch up and ate some swell food! Friday night I had a crew shift and got Yogli Mogli with KW beforehand. That was awesome! I'd been craving it for some time...

On Saturday I performed some improv. I played Buzzer Talk Show, Sit Stand Lean, Narration Switch, and Musical Styles. It was a relatively small crowd for a Saturday, but it was still fun!

Sunday was a kind of lazy day. I did make some progress on my fundraising video for the year. Then I went to El Azteca AND Yogli Mogli (again) with ES. I fell asleep surprisingly early for having been up until 3:00 a.m. the previous night (or morning... WHATEVER!).

I totally feel like I'm just going in order of days, but deal with it. You know my brain likes some organization. Yesterday and today were pretty largely uneventful, with the exception of getting Yogli Mogli today. Is anyone noticing a trend? I also worked out both days, so that's been a big improvement. I'd been feeling way too drained to exercise for the last several weeks. I'm thinking I should have forced myself because it's helping increase my energy level, but oh well. Another day, another dollar. That phrase was pretty irrelevant here.

That's about it. Drew's Crew is about to get silly up in this fundraising arena. To give the first update of the year, the team currently stands at a total of $5,604. That's pretty awesome considering we have barely started. We are going to raise more than $30,000 this year, and I mean it...

Night!

Eye can't take it anymore

I've never really known what commercials meant when they talked about dry or itchy eyes from allergies...until today. My eyeballs physically hurt. I'm not even joking. It hurts to have them open. Although eye drops have always been a fear of mine, I broke down and bought some tonight because I had no idea what else to do. The weird thing is that I put drops in a little bit ago, and it's like my eyeballs already feel like sponges. RIDICULOUS! I'm about to use the drops again. I could easily see this fear becoming an obsession. NEED. DROPS.

I go to the ENT tomorrow. Let's get excited! I'm actually not at all excited because it means getting up early on a telecommute day. I have no idea what I was thinking when I scheduled such an early appointment. It will be interesting to see what my nose is doing. Other than being a punk.

Umm, I guess I probably haven't announced the three kidney stones in here yet. I have three kidney stones. There. I said it. The CT scan said it first.

Onto non-bodily topics...Work is stressful. I'm not even gonna pretend it isn't.

Tonight I met a friend (MV) at Starbucks. That was most definitely the highlight of the day. I sure needed a refreshing beverage and a listening ear. DORKY!

I don't feel like saying anything else because all I can think about is going to get my eye drops.

Improvisational comedy shows

Well, this post is purely to catch up improv-wise. I'm honestly not sure why I continue to write what improv games I played, but I like habit. However, don't feel obligated to read this. At this point, I'm just curious to see if I can remember it all. That being said, this information may or may not be accurate...

Saturday, March 5 at 8:00 p.m.: Buzzer Bachelorette, Foreign-Dubbed Soap Opera, Sit Stand Lean Oscar, Meet the Experts, Musical Styles

Saturday, March 5 at 10:30 p.m.: Repeat Scene Styles, Oscar Musical, Hip or Not, Phones, Musical Styles

Thursday, March 10: Stereotypes, Subcons, Meet the Experts, Emo Spot (straight), Remote Control Styles

Friday, March 11: ABC (with three people), Emo Spot (straight), Confessions Buzzer, Remote Control Styles

So, I did it. I'm not gonna lie, though. Right when I realized I was missing one thing, I noticed that my improv notebook has been sitting on my bed this entire time, so I did reference it (for only one thing). So sue me.

ANYWAY!

Klee. Nex.

Sometimes I feel like I have a lot to say and nothing to say simultaneously. Does that make me a headcase? Perhaps.

I'm tired and medicated and, given the time change, I should be sleeping already. I just got home from picking my sister up at the airport.

Sleep well. And smile!

I heart my friend BA.

Ben[adryl] there, done that

Hello.

I just wrote that fake Wednesday post. I'm not very good at keeping secrets, huh?

Well, today was a pretty interesting day. We were supposed to have a team retreat at work. Then it got canceled this morning. Then, when it was physically impossible for me to be in the office in time for the retreat, the team decided it wasn't canceled anymore. So, that being said, the day got started off the wrong foot and has just kind of coasted since.

I performed improv last night for another sold-out crowd. CRAZY! I played Script in Hand, Oscar Musical, Narration Switch + Sounds Like a Song, and Meet the Experts. I busted out my newly developed character named Willy Nilly. She was fun! I wished I'd had a little more energy, but it had been a long day...

We had our bowling tournament at work yesterday. I got the highest score on my team, which was a 101. That is very good for me! We didn't win the actual tournament, but we won Best Team Name/Theme, which was quite the honor. It was my responsibility to come up with both, so we were "The Bowled and the Beautiful" and dressed as celebrities. We had black shirts and wore flashy scarves and sunglasses. Our clapper board was what sent it over the top, though. We were pretty obnoxious with that board. Here's a shout out to KW for letting me borrow the board (AKA the key to success).

I guess that's about all. I've been feeling sick, so I took a Benadryl and am about to pass out. Tomorrow is going to be busy!

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Yep, I'm backdating this

I have no idea where the week went. I can't believe I haven't logged into Blogger all week. That's just straight-up insanity.

Oh dang... I forgot like I was supposed to pretend it was Wednesday. I FAILED!

Anyway, if it had been Wednesday, I'd probably make some comments about how I had to go into work for an interview on my telecommute day. Then I might mention that I had rehearsal and that we worked on characters.

Oh, but the main thing I'd highlight is that I was in a show on Tuesday night. It was sold out, which was super cool since we usually dont have Tuesday shows. Anyway, I played Buzzer Bachelorette, Script in Hand, Oscar Musical, ABC Buzzer Beatnik Poetry, and Repeat Scene Musical Styles. It was a lot of fun!

Then, I'd probably end the post mentioning how I was going to perform on Thursday (although that would mean I could predict the future because the cast was announced Thursday morning). And then I'd say that I was looking forward to our bowling tournament at work, even though I couldn't afford the time away from my desk.

It's crazy writing the post like this; I almost feel like a psychic.

A little patience

Hi!

Last night I performed improv! I played Emo Interview, Sit Stand Lean Oscar, Meet the Experts, and Remote Control Styles. It was a ton of fun, and some of my family members were there to celebrate my cousin's 21st birthday. Woohooo!

I went out after the show and watched one of my best high school friends (PH) play music at a bar. I saw a bunch of familiar faces and had a good time. I also ate a BLT.

What else has been happening in my world? I sound pretty awful with the pollen and what not. Today is going to be a beautiful day (almost 80 degrees!), but I think I'll have to enjoy it from the confines of my home. Highest pollen count yet! I sound so dorky talking about it, but my life truly does need to revolve around allergies for the next ... while.

I've got a really busy week ahead. I get intimidated when I think about it. It's not that I have poor time management skills; I just have too much to do.

GUESS WHAT! I got cowboy boots the other day! I'm super excited about them!

I ran into my grandmother at the grocery store yesterday. She got me some sour gummy worms!

Well, off to take on the day... No idea of what I'll do!

Oh allergies

Oh allergies, you are so mean.
Oh allergies, you make me green.
I mean that in multiple ways.
You are ruining these beautiful days.

Using tissues left and right,
And coughing throughout the night.
I wish you'd get out of town
Instead of bringing me down.

Sniffle, sniffle, watery eyes,
Your tricks come as no surprise.
My face and I both dislike you,
So stop what you're doing. ACHOO!

Slow your roll

Per tradition, I need to start off this post by commenting on the frequency with which I've been posting. I was doing so well earlier last week and then the weekend arrived... Such is life!

I performed in an improv show Friday night. It was an actor's final show (LB), so it was sad, but I was really glad to be part of it. I played Conducted Rap, Sounds Like A Song/Rap, Remote Control Styles, Buzzer Game Show, and Oscar Musical. It was sold out (with a lot of familiar faces in the audience), a lot of fun, and ended with a standing ovation; doesn't get much better than that! I was also super-excited because one of my friends (JS) from CF camp (that I hadn't seen in close to nine years) came to the show. That sentence sure was complicated.

Most of the weekend consisted of taking it easy. Yesterday I went out to lunch and had a few drinks with CW. The roomie and I were going to go out last night, but we were having a hard time figuring out a plan, so we just hung out at home instead. Today we worked out, went to the grocery store, and watched about a million episodes of "I Used to Be Fat" on MTV. It was one of those awesome days that lasted FOREVER!

I plan on going to sleep early tonight so I can start the week off on the right foot. Thankfully this week should be less hectic than last week at work (knock on wood!), so I ought to be able to better manage my stress level.

Hope everyone had an incredible weekend; the weather here was amazing!

Fooooooooooood

Today has been lengthy. It's good to finally be home.

Well, I left just after 7:00 a.m. for my early meeting. The meeting was nice and productive, so that's redeeming. I would not have been a happy camper if it wasn't. My goal was to go to Starbucks on the way to the meeting, but I didn't want to risk being late. Perhaps tomorrow!

What else? I just got home from improv rehearsal. AWESOME!

My neck is bothering me. It's kind of strange, so I won't get into detail.

I have been eating so much lately. I don't know if my body's still on cruise time or what, but it is insane! Maybe it's a result of stress or something, but I have been eating almost every 30 minutes.

I guess it's bedtime. NIGHT.

Testing, testing

Well, this is my first attempt at blogging on my phone. Okay, that was a fabrication. I downloaded the Blogger app a few minutes ago, so this is my first time blogging with the app. I did write a tiny blog once logged into the Blogger website. Why am I telling you stuff you don't care about at all? Good question.

I just got home from a friend's (LG) birthday party. I wasn't feeling great today, so I almost didn't go. Then I started wondering if I was giving into the "illness" too easily, so I went regardless of whether or not it was a good idea. Only time will tell.

I'm currently in bed thinking about how I need to be over at the hospital at 8:00 a.m. to fulfill my role as a Patient Family Advisor. Whew. I realize once a month is a very small time commitment, but when it's that early on a day when I'd normally be telecommuting, it's gigantic.

I had steak nachos at Willy's today, so that was what I'd call success. Other than that, the day was kind of rough. At least I wore a new cardigan.

Now that I've wasted your time, I'll go to sleep so tomorrow might yield more worthwhile things.

Hello warmth

Hmmm. Well, happy Monday/Valentine's Day/sunny day! Man, today was absolutely beautiful outside. The allergy count is on the rise, so let's keep our fingers crossed! It's a noseroid kind of night...

I ended up telecommuting today because I was feeling pretty rough when I woke up. I slept about 12 hours, yet again, but it just didn't seem like enough. My eyes were not having it. We'll see how tomorrow goes. I feel like I've got to be fighting something in order to be capable of sleeping so much.

I don't really have a lot to say. I've been a little short-tempered today. I'm thinking it's a combination of things, but mainly that I'm not feeling well.

My goal for tomorrow is to exercise before work. Can I succeed? I think I can.

Night all!

River of chocolate

This is going to be very brief.

I had a dream last night that my mom and I were swimming in a river of chocolate. Up ahead, my friend KQ was with a guy named Drew that I'd never seen before. My mom and I were trying to swim over to them.

Then, I noticed that a gigantic donut (the size of a ferris wheel) was falling out of the sky. It, too, was chocolate, but was covered in white powder. KQ told me to let the donut fall on me and it would cover me in powder. Then, as the donut landed on me, I woke up and was in the midst of an asthma attack (in real life).

I realized that, every couple of months, I wake up having an asthma attack that fits into my dream. I remember one when I was choking on Tootsie rolls, and another when I was choking on gummy bears. I realize that I sound like an absolute headcase right now, especially since the examples I remember are about candy. Anyway, I've always wondered if the dream's panic-laced storyline causes the attack, or if the attack incorporates itself into my dream before actually waking me.

It's hard to imagine that anyone else would have a similar story, but oh well. I felt like sharing! Judge your little heart out.

Oh, and the craziest part was that, as I was calming down from the attack, I heard my phone go off. I had literally just received an email warning me about the allergy forecast for today. It's merely coincidence, but it reminded me that allergy season is on the way. WONDERFUL!

Slacker

Hey! I've been a major slacker since...well...a while ago. My fancy phone has been the primary culprit considering I spend significantly less time on the Internet when I'm at home. I really only blog from home, and now there are days when I don't open my laptop at all. Enough of my making excuses, but I really do aspire (fun word!) to write in here more frequently. I enjoy it. It looks like I better download a Blogger app. Yep, I just said that.

So, I'm going to say random bullets about my cruise:
-The population was mainly comprised of senior citizens (love it!) and rednecks (amused by it!).
-It doesn't get much better than watching toothless karaoke.
-I held an alligator!
-Spinning out in a boat is an incredibly exhilarating feeling.
-Cottage cheese is good.
-Tanning on a beach and seeing snow in a 36-hour period isn't normal.
-Consider getting a second opinion when asking someone the time; the bus will leave without you.
-Hold onto your balloon hat when you go to the top of the boat, even when docked.
-Kayaking through mangroves is like something out of a movie.
-Cruises re-program how often you think you need to eat.

All in all, I had a blast on the cruise! I have one observation that I noticed on the last cruise, and then reconfirmed this cruise: Time seems like it's passing slowly for the first day or two -- like, you really think you have all the time in the world -- and then it just speeds up and you feel like it all happened in the blink of an eye. I need to go on a 4352342-day cruise next time.

This week was a pretty stressful one since it was mass email week AND I was already backlogged. I survived it, but it definitely wasn't easy. I performed on Thursday night, so that was fun. I played Conducted Rap, Sounds Like A Song, Foreign-Dubbed Soap Opera, Sit Stand Lean Oscar, Dating Game, and Musical Styles. It was a pretty big crowd for a Thursday night, so that was cool. Yippee!

Oh man! Guess what! One of my friends (MV) gave me a baseball "To Drew" from John Smoltz! I literally couldn't believe it. I am sooooo ready for the season to begin.

Well, I've been taking it easy this weekend. I was so delirious by yesterday evening that I was barely functioning. I seriously reached into the oven without a mitt on my hand. That's not a metaphor; that's the truth. Thankfully I caught myself before I grabbed the tray, but I think that speaks for itself. I'm hoping next week will be slightly more relaxed, but you never know!

It's time to read a little bit and sleep for another 10 or 12 hours. I started to feel like I could be getting sick, but I'm thinking it was just the stress from the workweek.

Happy weekend, all!

P.S. I won a trophy and medal on the cruise -- gotta keep representin' for the Dotson household. There was some kind of brain teaser trivia and I pretty much dominated. I guess that makes me a total nerd, but I have a trophy and medal to prove it.

Honey, I'm home

I'm back from my trip. I would recap the trip, but I'm already running behind trying to get myself into work. Gotta love returning to work after vacation!

In summary, my cruise was a lot of fun. I had a really great time and am a little sad that it's over. I'm still kind of walking like I'm on the boat, so at least it's still at the forefront of my mind...

There's more to say, but it can wait. Happy Monday!

Bye, Mom!

Hello. This blog post is specifically for my mom. I am going to miss her and her tiny self while I am in paradise.

Hope everyone has a good week. Love you all!

Hasta la vista!

Hola, hypocrite

So, this is a forewarning that I'm not in a very pleasant mood. It's really been a culmination of things that got me to this point, the biggest of those being hypocrisy.

To make a long story short, Saturday was not a good day. I was in my room getting ready to venture out of the house when I heard some weird noises. Knowing my roommate wasn't home, it caught my attention. I then heard loud noises again and realized they were coming from outside. I looked outside in time to see a U-Haul wedged against the cement column to which our exit gate is affixed. Well, I saw the truck try to break free, consequently uprooting the cement column and knocking the cast-iron gate loose only to be caught by my car. Hooray!

I threw on some clothes and went downstairs and outside to see that the gate had been lifted off my car. I was looking at my car to see if my window was cracked and if there was any other damage. Two of the three guys involved were trying to rub scratches off my car and I pulled out my phone. One guy was friendly and said he was calling the cops, so I started to look up the numbers to our property management company. Then, out of nowhere, the guys made a break for it and took off.

I stood there in disbelief for longer than I should have, hoping that they were simply moving the U-Haul and accompanying car out of the roadway. Buuuut they didn't return. So I called the cops and, although they tried to chase them, they couldn't find them. I then spent another 90 minutes dealing with the cops and filing the report, etc. We knocked on some doors to see if we could get any information, but the cop explained that it would be assigned to a hit-and-run detective who would call me and try to help find the perpetrators.

Now, because of someone else's irresponsibility, I've wasted several hours having to tell and retell the story to various parties, only to feel like nobody is all that concerned. It's just frustrating because people are acting like I'm being unreasonable and/or impatient when I can't even imagine how the tables would be turned if they were in my position. Not only am I frustrated by the inconvenience of it all, but it's kind of disheartening when someone does something like that to you personally. I feel like it isn't a priority to anybody except me, when I'm already the one who wasted most of my free time on the weekend dealing with it, has to listen to the screeching of the broken gate trying to close at all times, and was technically the 'victim' of the pending case. I just kind of wish people would take a moment to step back and try to empathize with how they might feel if the roles were reversed.

Enough of being on that pedestal, but it has been stressful.

Friday night I saw Peter Pan and it was pretty stinkin' cool. My weekend was practically nonstop, so I don't feel well-rested at all. I just feel so drained in every sense. I can't wait to leave town.

Viva la vida

I'm going to Mexico! For real. Necesito una vacacion.

Well, I performed in a private show last night for some consultants. It was a blast! We did one set for a great crowd! I played Sit Stand Lean Oscar, Musical Styles, and Remote Control Styles. It was definitely the turning point in my week... WOOOHOOO!

Tuesday didn't quite go as expected considering I missed the Patient Family Advisor lunch AND my doctor's appointment, but oh well. I went to the doctor yesterday instead and all was well. It was my final appointment for the protein study, and my PFTs were through-the-roof and my veins were cooperative. Perhaps that was the turning point in my week.

I can't wait to be in the SUNSHINE!

I guess it's about time to start crankin' out some mass emails. I can't believe it's Friday. I've lost track of the day with all of the non-routine craziness lately.

Another day, another dollar.

New day, new mood

Hi!

There have been a lot of things weighing on my mind lately and I'm not exactly sure why. I think that it's partially due to the fact that I haven't had a routine in what feels like forever. When I returned to work after my surgery and what not, it was practically time for the holidays. Then, when the holidays finally passed, the Atlantan Ice Debacle 2K11 kept us out of work for almost an entire week. And now, despite yesterday's MLK holiday, we're supposed to work from home this week while they move our offices. I'm not exactly complaining because of course it's nice to be at home, but I'm looking forward to establishing some kind of routine for the first time yet this year.

Things are going well on the exercise front. I've been going to the fitness center occasionally, riding my spin bike, and dancing to the Wii. I haven't exercised this frequently in a long time, so I guess that's a perk of having such a jacked up schedule. I can't believe my roommate and I got up at 5:30 a.m. to exercise. I'm still in denial.

Today I'll be heading to campus for the first time in 12 days. Can you believe it? I need to get some things from my desk, go to a lunch for Patient Family Advisors, and attend my last protein study visit. I've got a big day ahead! The first step is actually changing out of sweatpants for probably the third time in two weeks. I bet you can sense why I've been feeling out-of-sorts...

Last night I was thinking about the people we meet throughout our lives and how they affect us. I'm thankful to be surrounded by such great people. There's no such thing as too much love in this world. Just think about it...

When I grow up...

I wanna be famous.

That's not me saying I want to be famous, but rather it's a tribute to dancing to Just Dance 2 on the Wii. My roommate and I have only played the game together twice, but we are getting better and better each time. There's a tribal dance that it's safe to say we DOMINATED.

I can't exactly remember the last time I wrote, but today was the fourth day of work being canceled due to the snow. Tomorrow work will resume, but not until noon. That being said, I likely won't go into the office unless the ice behind my car miraculously melts. I know that this weekend is supposed to bring warmer temps, so hopefully my car will be mobile sometime on Saturday! I've never experienced anything to this extent in my lifetime in Atlanta! We'll get some snow about once a year, but it never stays cold enough for all school districts to be canceled for an entire week. It's been frustrating at times, but kinda fun, too.

Today I ventured out for the first time since Sunday -- made a journey to Publix. Aside from almost busting it on the way to the car, the expedition was pretty painless. Then, though, on the way home, I guess someone had gotten in an accident because it took probably 30 minutes to go 1/8 of a mile. I looooooove traffic.

Well, I'll stop rambling and get to sleep. As you can probably tell, the apprentice show was canceled tonight. BUMMER! It would have been quite the battle trying to get down there, but this cabin fever would have made for something interesting!

I hope everyone is safe and warm.

GO FALCONS! if I don't write before Saturday night's playoff game.

Stir, stir, stir it up

Oh man... I am LOSING IT! Well, the snow thing worked out and tomorrow will be day three of work being canceled. It's kind of funny that I'm feeling so restless because I'm usually not like this. I think the difference here is that I know that I truly can't leave the house -- or that I can and it would be dangerous. Plus, the work is still there, so that doesn't make it any easier. I don't know if we'll go back to work on Thursday or what because this stuff isn't expected to thaw until Friday or later. BLAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

I'm trying to force myself to go to sleep at a decent time even though I don't have to work tomorrow. It's chapter newsletter week at work so, when work does resume, I'm going to have so much to do. I think that's why it's been hard for me to relax and enjoy these snow days. Usually I'd be having a party!

What else? I'm trying not to let myself get discouraged about my book, but I haven't worked on it much lately. I just haven't been inspired. I don't know if it's that last week was particularly stressful and this week is just so up-in-the-air or what... Maybe there isn't a reason; maybe I just needed a break.

Well, I guess I'm going to try to get to sleep. I hope everyone is staying warm and safe. This is definitely the most snow I've ever seen. In my life, probably. SMILE!

Whether the weather is cold...

Greetings! It's Sunday! Normally I would be bummed because it would mean the weekend is coming to a close, but, if things go according to plan, it's going to be snowy and icy and we won't have to go to work tomorrow.

It has been a theatre-filled weekend. Yesterday I worked the box office for the kids' show. I performed last night and it was fun. I played Conducted Rap, Sounds Like a Song/Rap, Foreign-Dubbing (as a dubber), Sit Stand Lean Oscar, Buzzer Courtroom (Barbara as the bailiff), and Musical Styles. It was sold out!

Friday night I went out with some work friends (KQ and SS) and we stayed out entirely too late. I had a lot of fun, though. I messed up my sleeping routine, so that's another reason I'm voting for snow.

What else? I'm going to an apprentice celebration tonight. It should be fun!

yawn

There are about 18 billion thoughts going through my head right now, but the most important one is that I should go to sleep.

AM left town today, so I'm readjusting to life. I think everyone is, though, given that it's post-holidays and what not. I've always thought saying 'and what not' was pretty funny. Can you tell I'm sleepy? I'm starting to feel hungry, too.

Well, I just wanted to say that I have a good feeling about 2011. I hope you do, too.

Good night, noseroid.

P.S. I played the lottery for the first time last night. And no, I didn't win. The funny thing is that someone today was talking about people who play the lottery and are truly surprised when they don't win. I actually did feel kind of shocked that they didn't pick my numbers. Does that make me a narcissist or an optimist? Or just plain AWESOME?!

:-)

Monday, January 3, 2011

Hi, 2011.

I feel like the appropriate thing to do would be to write some sort of commemorative blog about my year in review or something along those lines. However, "appropriate" really isn't my style, so I'm just going to go for a more stream-of-consciousness approach.

AM and I had a fun weekend! We ended up going out with some friends on New Year's Eve, but didn't do anything extravagant. We kept it low-key at a local bar and had fun. We spent most of New Year's Day trying to decide what to eat, which resulted in a quick (after four hours of deliberating) run to a local Chinese takeout place. Throughout this sweet and sour journey, the paparazzi photographed me trying to find a menu I'd thrown away.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Clearly.

Oh! Saturday night I performed in an improv show - 1/1/11! I had a blast and played Sit Stand Lean Oscar, ABC Buzzer Holiday Story, Emo Interview (straight), and Remote Control Styles. The audience was great and the cast was a lot of fun. Hooray to kicking off the new year with improv!

I'm in denial about the fact that I'm about to go into the office. You know I LOVE returning to work after an abnormal holiday schedule.

So, I've set some resolutions for myself, but they're relatively simple. I'm mainly working on developing some better habits, which will hopefully be facilitated by my Habit Streak app. Yes, I have become that phone person. Anyway, I'm trying to develop better habits as far as exercising, writing, lung health, organization, and overall well-being, so we'll see how it all shakes out. I like the feeling of a new year; it gives me a sense of freedom even though it's really no different than the week before. What gives?!

Happy 2011! Let's make it a swell one!

Yen

Hi!

Well, I am all Cortisoned up since the last time I wrote. The injection went well; it was much easier than last time. It was the exact same procedure, but last time I had no idea what was going to happen. This time, though, I was mentally prepared to feel like my chest was collapsing, so I wasn't concerned when it happened. The soreness seems to be better this time, too, or maybe it's just that I was expecting it... Hopefully it will stop hurting in about 24 hours!

Umm, my friend AM is in town. Awesome! We have kept it pretty low-key, but we did go out to Willy's for lunch and had sushi for dinner with JM. It was like a Dominican Republic reunion. I love dinners with friends!

I'm exhausted because we stayed up really late after her arrival last night (or I guess technically today). We have agreed to sleep in tomorrow... big time!

My new phone is still making me really happy. I learn new tricks all day long!

We haven't figured out yet what we'll do tomorrow night, but I'm sure it will be fun. Cheers to a wonderful 2011, y'all! It's resolution time!

ROAR ROAR ROAR

It seems like I just wrote, but what gives...

Right now I'm perturbed because I just opened a ridiculous medical bill...and I don't use the term 'ridiculous' lightly. It's amazing that health procedures cost so much money, especially when they're things that I don't even want. I guess it would be one thing if I behaved in a way that brought on tons of medical expenses, but it's sort of lame that something genetic could cost so much money. Normally I don't have a 'why me' attitude and that's not what I'm trying to convey; I'm just saying that it's a shame that all of this money pays for things I'd rather not have. In case it wasn't obvious, opening that envelope was not a good end to my day. But oh well...all of my complaining isn't going to give me a discount, so I should probably stop.

What else? I'm tired. I just finished working lights at the theatre. I am going to sleep like a baby. I guarantee you that.

I'm getting my Cortisone injection tomorrow. PUT IT ON MY TAB. (Side note: I can't really be too bitter about that one because the cornhole injury was an unfortunate accident directly related to my behavior.) Pitiful.

I had a nice Christmas and have had an enjoyable week so far. Aside from the Falcons' loss on Monday and my long complaint-ridden paragraph to start this blog, I really don't have anything to complain about. :-)

My phone is CRAZY!

Sweet dreams. You are awesome.

Hoooo, Hoooo, Hoooo

That title was me being Santa from A Christmas Story. We're in the throes of the 24-hour marathon (or whatever it is nowadays!), and I always find myself repeating Santa's angry "Hoooo, Hoooo, Hoooo" before he stomps on Ralphie's fingers.

Anyway, mentioning A Christmas Story is the perfect segue into last night's improv show since we did what we liked to call A Christmas Improv. It was a fun show and I had a lot of friends and family members supporting me. A mainstager who's in school in LA was home for the holidays, so he performed with us (Damien). I played Questions and Advice, Narration Switch, and Emo Interview (changing). Cheers to my last show in 2010!

I'm very tired, but I felt like writing anyway. I can't believe it's almost Christmas. This year was unbelievably long, but incredibly short at the same time. It always baffles me how I can feel that way. You know what I'm talking about, though...

Today I got a new phone, so I'm pretty excited about that. It's fancy! I'm enjoying it because I had lost all patience with the pitiful phone I was using as a replacement. This phone is doing crazy-cool things so far and I realize I have probably only seen 1% of what it has to offer. High five for technology!

I really wrote this post to tell everyone happy holidays. This is always a thought-provoking time of year, and there are many things that make me grateful. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this year wonderful!

Fra-gee-lay

Hi! It's Tuesday!

It feels like the week is flying by, but I realize it's only Tuesday. I guess I'm allowed to say it's flying by, though, since tomorrow is basically Friday. Woohoo! I loooove shortened workweeks!

Last night we had our annual family Bunco game. Per usual, I did just good enough and just bad enough to keep from winning anything. Shucks! It was fun to see everyone, though. I need to work on my dice-rolling skills.

What else? I'm editing our entire [new] website at work; it's launching in January. Most people would think this was punishment, but I think it's an early present! I felt like I accomplished so much yesterday and then realized I have about 348297329785263 pages to go. I WILL PREVAIL!

I can't believe it's the week of Christmas. Seriously. It seems like just the other day I was backing into a car and yelling about my kidney stones. Ahh, the memories! It's pretty inevitable that I'll have better luck in 2011, although 2010 has been a blast despite its complications.

Well, I guess it's time to head to work and HTML the silly out of some things. Perhaps I'll treat myself to Starbucks. What latte do I want today?! Decisions, decisions.

Have a great one! <3 <3 <3

It's pouting time

I'm in an unexplained bad mood right now. I really can't rationalize it, but I think it's probably a combination of being tired and having a long to-do list. WHATEVER.

Thursday's show was awesome! It was sold out and we got a standing ovation. Hoorah! I was in a straight scene, ABC Buzzer, Emo Second Date (not changing emotions), Meet the Holiday Experts and Oscar Musical. The audience was great and had a lot of energy, so we responded with a lot of energy. I enjoyed myself! 'Tis the season...

Friday I telecommuted for a bit and went into work for another little bit. One of my colleagues (HA!) was having her going away party, so we all went to El Azteca for happy hour. Me, TO, and a couple work friends (KQ and SS) then went to the theatre to watch the show. It, too, was a sellout, so we watched it from the cafe.

Yesterday I made myself useless for a lot of the day and then covered someone's lights shift at the theatre. That definitely wasn't in my plans, but duty called. Soooooo, I stayed up way too late again. I did get a present, though, from ES! I got the Elf DVD (LOVE IT!), some rum (LOVE IT!), and the Jimmy Eat World CD (LOVE THE TRACKS I'VE HEARD!).

I'm pretty sure it's nap time.

DD phone home

My silly phone isn't cooperating with me. Yesterday I couldn't hear anyone that called. The same thing happened today, and then some key buttons quit working. After growing increasingly impatient today, I decided to use this back-up that I promise is from the early 2000s. Now I just hooked up this Zack Morris style cell phone and will give it a whirl tomorrow, I guess.

I just got home from rehearsal. The roads were icy, so me and KW got there late. Then, rehearsal went a little longer than expected because we were working on something. Add the ice into the drive home and here it is after 11:00 p.m. I'm about to go to sleep!

Anyway, I just thought I'd document here that my phone is acting a fool.

Sweet dreams!

Roaaaura

Daaaaaang, it's been a while. Tell me the last time I didn't start off by saying something like that.

Well, Wednesday I took my car to Nissan to get the brakes checked out because they were making unusual noises. Basically, the dude gave me a paper explaining that Nissan brakes sometimes make unusual noises. So, I guess that resolves that ... unless my brakes go out. KNOCK ON WOOD!

Wednesday afternoon we had a university-wide marketing/communications meeting and holiday celebration. We went bowling at the new mini-alley they opened at an on-campus hotel. I was hesitant to bowl because my SC joint was hurting, so I drank a beer before bowling. Self-medication. Then, I got children's-sized shoes with Velcro on them. Then, between addressing comments that the bowling ball was bigger than me, I proceeded to bowl an 83, which is pretty phenomenal for me.

I performed some improvisational comedy on Thursday night, so that was fun. One of the cast members got sick, so we had a last-minute substitution in the form of TO. I played Conducted Rap (rapping about Mexican food... how appropriate), Buzzer Interview, Repeat Scene Direction (gansta, paranoid valley girl), Sit Stand Lean Oscar, Meet the Experts (Barbara on travel), and Musical Styles (80s Rock, Jazz, R&B, and Southern Rock). We had a lot of fun, and I was excited to have some friends in the audience.

Yesterday I had to go into the office because it was an office clean-up day. After getting my Eggnog Latte, I headed to work. When I was almost to work, it happened ... I started to see the 'aura.' I was seeing a lot of ripples and it was getting progressively worse. I made it to the office and then hunted down someone with Excedrin Migraine. I took pills and borrowed some sunglasses, but I was pretty much down for the count. I tried eating lunch and started to get nauseous, so I came home. We were getting off early anyway because we had our holiday party last night, but I missed that, too. Oh well. I had a great nap, and that helped a little. Then I slept 12 hours last night, so I'm hopeful that it's gone.

I'm about to go to the gym. YEAAAAAAH!

Have a satisfying Saturday!

breathe easy

GUESS WHAT?!?!?!

Today I had the highest PFTs I've had since March of 2007. I am seriously in shock! It's not that I've been feeling bad or anything, but I didn't even know that it was possible! The doctor kept asking me what I thought caused the increase, but I have no idea. It's probably a combination of the hospital, the sinus surgery, the time off work, etc. Either way, I'm not complaining! Now I feel like trying to push the limit even more. I don't go back to the doctor for three months (ahh, it's like music to my ears), so we'll see what I can whip up by March!

Then I went to my (protein) study appointment and that went pretty well, I guess. It took four attempts to get blood, but is this surprising to anyone? Nope? Nobody? Me either.

What else? I'm about to go to sleep. I know it's early, but I'm really tired. Oh, that reminds me that I also told the doctor that the additional sleep was probably helping me healthwise. I need to do my noseroid. Speaking of 'roids, I'm getting a Cortisone injection in my SC joint at the end of the month. What a walking disaster!

I didn't get to eat Willy's today because I was slammed at work. The good news is that I knocked out EVERYTHING I needed to finish today before I headed to the doctor.

Mmm, bedtime.

I rememba. In Decemba.

The Falcons make me proud! We (yes, I am on the team) just improved our record to 10-2. AWESOME! I still have on my Falcons hoodie.

Well, I'm probably about to go to sleep and it's just after 8:00 p.m. I stayed up pretty late last night AND the cold weather makes me want to sleep. I just saw that the morning wind chill is supposed to be in the teens tomorrow. That's absolutely absurd if you ask me...

The ENT said my nose looked pretty bad, so that's just wonderful. He put me on a steroid for six weeks, so hopefully that helps with the inflammation. The noseroid goes straight into my nostril. CRAZY!

I had a fun weekend! I took it easy on Friday night because I was just so exhausted from the week's shenanigans. Saturday I tried a new drink at Starbucks - the Gingerbread Latte - recommended by AM. It was awesome! Then I headed down to the theatre to work the box office at the kids' show.

After the show, MJ and I tried to go to the SEC football championship game at the Georgia Dome. There were absolutely no tickets when we arrived there, so we went and watched it at a bar instead. Then we went to a wine party. I had a good time and stayed up LATE.

Today I've been good for nothing. I really only accomplished two things: 1) I did a load of laundry, and 2) I fixed shells and cheese. I also took two naps if those fall into the 'accomplishments' category.

Happy December!

Yo, Drizzle

So, tonight when I went to meet MV at Starbucks, I got a Caramel Apple Spice drink. I told the guy I didn't want any whipped cream. Then, I was sitting there waiting and he said, "Do you want any caramel drizzle?" I thought it was hilarious because there was once a time when the word 'drizzle' was interchangeable with my name. I used to be 'Drizzle' to so many people that I would turn my head when the meteorologist said there was a chance of drizzle. I'd be like, "WHAT UP, WEATHER MIZZLE!" It was really hard to keep my mouth shut and not make a joke to Mr. Starbizzle, but he wouldn't have understood.

Also, it's been rainy all stinkin' day, so the title is a play on words. You're welcome.

I am as tired as can be. Tomorrow is going to be such a long day, too, beginning with a meeting at 7:00 a.m. I think I've officially made celebrity status because a driver will be taking me to my ENT appointment tomorrow. Basically, my presence at this meeting is so in-demand that I am being chauffeured to and from the doctor after the meeting. Isn't that awesome? Anyway, I'm excited because it's my first meeting as a member of the Program Steering Committee for the newly-formed CF Center of Excellence in Atlanta. I'm going to be in a room with all doctors and researchers. I love furthering CF research.

I had Willy's today and oh. my. heavens. Unbelievable. I also felt like a celebrity when I went in there. The workers were talking about my new hair, and the girl at the register (who I thought was mute) was like, "Where are your glasses?" I about dropped my nachos because I was startled, but I told her they were on my desk.

Well, I think that's about all the narcissism I can handle for the day, so I'll go to sleep and dream of myself. :-) GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD VIBES!

Drinkin' the Kool-Aid

Yo! Yo! Yo! Those exclamations actually represent tiredness, contrary to popular belief.

Has anybody ever played Purble Place? It's a Microsoft game, I believe, and it has a fun memory, card-matching option. When I first discovered it years ago, I used to play it obsessively. I've calmed down over the years, but I'm on another kick right now. It's getting to be problematic.

Bless me. I just sneezed for the sixth-ish time today.

Well, I am WORN OUT! I got up at about 5:00 a.m. and was at work by 7:00 a.m. On the way into the office, I got an EGGNOG LATTE! I had it for the first time on Friday night and couldn't decide what I thought of it. So, I got it again today and I still haven't come to a conclusion. I feel like getting it again tomorrow, though, so that's got to be a good sign, right?

Today some colleagues and I went out to eat at Top Spice. I like saying 'colleagues' because I feel like it makes me sound prestigious. I never said it at my previous workplaces, but I enjoy saying it now because it's funny to me.

I didn't work out today, but I did wear some suede boots. Those two thoughts shouldn't be joined in one sentence because they're completely separate, but I like to illustrate the way my mind works. Now (to the other end of the fashion spectrum), though, I'm wearing a tie-dyed sweatshirt I got at the Piggly Wiggly in Port St. Joe, Florida.

If anyone has any publishing connections, feel free to let me take advantage of you. I mean that with all of my heart.

Can you even believe that tomorrow is the last day of November? Me either. It's pretty absurd.

Raise your glass

I've become so delinquent on this blog-posting business. Oh well. I'm enjoying myself!

I had a good Thanksgiving. We usually go to my uncle's farm, but that didn't happen this year. I ended up doing a Thanksgiving dinner with my friend (LW) at her husband's parents' place on Thursday night. Even though I missed my family, I had a really great time. It was very low-key and we just pretty much sat around and enjoyed each others' company. The food was delicious, too! I'm thankful for everyone who offered to host me. :-)

After the dinner, I ended up heading to my parents' house as a surprise. I was already out in their direction, so I figured I would show up and spend the night. I spent all day Friday hanging out until I had to head to the theatre to work lights. Then I headed back to my parents' house Friday night and did Thanksgiving: The Sequel with my dad's side of the family on Saturday. Then, I headed to the theatre again to do suggestions for last night's show. Are you getting exhausted reading this? I feel worn out just typing it.

Today I went to my brother's place and watched the Falcons beat the Packers. It was fun!

I'm about to go to sleep. It's really early, but I've had a busy weekend. I've got a big day tomorrow!

It's gonna be a great week, world!

Candy caaaaaane

Where has the week gone? That was rhetorical.

Monday I went to the neurologist and basically learned that I need to stop taking headache medicine. I haven't taken it very frequently, but apparently it can perpetuate migraines by causing rebound headaches. Who knew? After the neurologist, I had my exit appointment from the study that my kidneys didn't like. Woohooo! I promise I've had probably 30+ doctors' appointments this year.

I've had some good eats this week! I had Pure Taqueria, Ippolito's and El Azteca! I feel like I've eaten a ton, but I guess it goes hand-in-hand with this time of year. Deeee-lish! Of course I've had Starbucks about 78 times this week, too, because that's officially become a problem of mine... I'm on a vanilla latte streak right now.

I ran about 3 miles yesterday and plan on doing it again tomorrow. Booyow!

I'm thankful for...
-living comfortably
-enjoying alone time
-getting a warm shower
-public service workers

Happy Thanksgiving to all! <3 Every day's a good one!

Blinded by the light

Man! I can't believe it's Saturday night. This week has just flown by...

Well, I performed some improv comedy on Thursday night! It was one of the most unusual shows I've ever been in, particularly because of the ending. One of the [former] apprentices just got promoted to mainstage (MK!), so it was his last show. As bittersweet as it was, I had fun! I played Sounds Like a Song/Rap, Emo Principal's Office, Musical Styles, ABC Buzzer Beatnik Poetry, and Helping Hands Oscar. For HHO, we were supposed to be eating in a restaurant, so we also had a server (who couldn't use his arms, either). By the end of the scene, I'd eaten cheese, a cracker, and cold ravioli, as well as took a swig of expired Italian dressing. However, I'd say the more memorable part was that MK ended up being coerced into eating the cold ravioli I'd already chewed and spit out. GROSS, but hilarious!

What else? I'm really pleased with where I stand book-wise, so that feels really rewarding.

Today I went to the Georgia Tech football game and they won! It was the first time I'd ever been to Bobby Dodd stadium, so that was cool.

Tonight I'm taking it easy. I'm hoping to get some work done, but I'm also feeling particularly drained from sitting in the sun all day. Speaking of sun, my headache has been very cooperative lately. Awesome!

That's all they really waaaaaaaant

It's Tuuuuueeeeeesday.

Well, I had my eye doctor appointment yesterday and it went pretty well. My prescription was unchanged from last year, so that's good news, even though it doesn't answer any headache questions. I did get scheduled for a visual field exam test and a follow-up appointment with the eye doctor, so we'll see if that provides any answers what-so-ever. Yesterday was really rough headache-wise, so I pretty much had to sleep for the entire afternoon.

I met up with a friend (AP) for dinner yesterday, too. We used to work together at Wolf Camera, so it was fun to catch up.

Today was surprisingly good, though! I got up and noticed my head wasn't hurting, so I went to the gym. I did about 30 minutes on the elliptical, and my head didn't bother me at all. AWESOME! The rest of the day was pretty much pain-free, so I'm knocking on wood here... I did get unusually tired today, so I did some napping.

Anything else? I met MV and her son for lunch at Chick-fil-A, so that was fun. He is almost a year old and is absolutely precious. I'm usually not a baby person, but he makes it easy to make an exception.

I've got kind of a long day tomorrow, so I better get a good night's sleep to make it through the day. I can't wait to sleep!!!

In over my head

Holy headache. I really don't mean to be a complainer, but something is truly wrong with my head. I don't think it's okay that I've had a headache since October 12. The pain gets better and worse throughout the day, but there's never been a time that I thought my headache was gone. It's pretty unfortunate that I don't go to the neurologist until next Monday (the earliest appointment I could get) because I'm starting to think there might be a real problem. Tomorrow I'm going to try to negotiate my way into something sooner because these tingles and warm sensations in my head don't seem like they could signify anything good.

Well, I've been working on my book and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Creative endeavors are hard, especially when you get so close to the work that it's impossible to view it objectively. I'm trying not to let myself read too much of it until I get to a place where I'd be comfortable handing it off. I know from previous experience that I tend to be very hard on myself when it comes to stuff like this, so I'm trying to put that off as long as possible to keep from getting discouraged.

I've had a great couple of days, though. I've noticed that my headache seems to worsen as the day goes on, so I've tried to make the most of the days, knowing that the night might get rough.

Side note: I love the song "Nothing Lasts Forever" by Maroon 5. I just listened to it twice.

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving! That is so crazy! That reminds me that I am thankful for meeting new people, getting a good night's sleep, and having access to health care.

Well, I think it's about time to take a nap. The light is bothering me more than usual today. I sound like a vampire. I've never jumped on the vampire bandwagon, but I'm pretty sure they don't like light. Happy Sunday!

What I need to doooo....

Hi! I'm doing my vest!

Well, this week has been great so far! On Monday I ran 3+ miles without ever even stepping foot on the rails of the treadmill. Monday evening I met a complete stranger (MJ) who just moved to Atlanta, and that was a lot of fun.

Then, yesterday evening I met MV for coffee at Starbucks. Before we met, I spent probably an hour typing things from handwritten notebooks, so that made me feel pretty accomplished. After we met, I saw The Social Network with ES. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. I never even started to doze off, which is a gigantic accomplishment for a movie-watching failure like myself.

I'm headed to a doctor's appointment this afternoon. It's for a new study I started when I was in the hospital. Yeah, you'd think I'd be on a study hiatus given my recent experience, but oh well. I can't imagine getting hurt by drinking protein... Knock on wood!

My book is coming along! I am really excited to work on it this afternoon. :-)

I am grateful for good people, cheese, and headache medicine.

+1 Hour

So, I'm going to make a conscious effort to blog regularly this week. I actually enjoy doing it, so I hate that I've been slacking, but I've just had a lot going on - in my head more than anything.

Today we got an extra hour of sleep, which was awesome. I didn't sleep an extra hour, but I like that I got up at a decent hour for the first time in a while. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to get an extra hour built into every day. I'm sure it would eventually become the norm and I'd fill it without even thinking, but it sounds so appealing. It's kind of like the way I feel like I have gained all this time when a meeting at work gets canceled. Anyway, because of the time change, I'm feeling sleepy especially early tonight, which I also consider a positive.

Even though I'm not supposed to be reading while I'm engulfed in my book-writing shenanigans, I have been periodically reading portions of a book about being grateful. It got me thinking a lot about gratitude, so I want to mention a few things that make me feel grateful today:
-Having heat as it starts to get cold
-Good food
-Laughing at random things
-My family

I saw a musical on Friday night at Emory (with ES). It was called "Pippin: His Life and Times." Someone I know from the theatre, Robby, played the role of Pippin. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was completely blown away by the musical. It hit home for several different reasons, and I'm really, really glad I went. Hooray for Pippin! I am grateful for Pippin!

Well, I'm going to spend some time on my book before I get too tired to be productive. Sweet dreams!

Purple streak, purple streak, she's purple streakaaay

Please sing the title of this post to the tune of "Super Freak." Thank you. [After the fact: Who would have known that "Super Freak" was in the dictionary? I had it as one word and SpellCheck zapped it.]

I got my hair did on Tuesday and, as you may have inferred from the title, I got it dyed a darker brown with some burgundy-esque lowlights. It's a pretty drastic difference, but it's pretty cool, if I do say so myself. It made its first public appearance yesterday, and I'd say it went well. It feels pretty fitting. My friend Stewart did it at a salon near my parents' house. I just adore it!

This week has been pretty unusual; I've just had a lot of change on the horizon. I don't really need to get into detail because I don't feel like it, but it's amazing how much can happen in a week. Life sure has a funny way of happening all at once...but I'm still feeling cheery.

Today was a little weird because my face felt as though I'd never even had sinus surgery, so that was lame. I'm hoping it was caused by something totally random because I don't need to be dealing with pain again ALREADY!

I'm just writing because I felt like I was overdue, but now I'm going to dry my hair.

Yaaaawn

Man, I set these goals to go to sleep early, and then I find myself up late yet again. Sigh. I guess that's the way life works when you don't have structure to your days.

I slept in until about 12:30 p.m. when I got a knock on the door from one of my neighbors (DF). He and a friend invited me to Taco Mac to watch some football, so I graciously accepted the invitation. We had a really good time watching football and catching up. I like fun people! Plus I had some Fiesta Chicken Nachos.

My friend (BA) and I then met up and ended up going on a walk by the Chattahoochee. We spent a lot of time talking about life and walked about six miles. Pretty impressive, I must say! It started to get pretty chilly at the end of our walk, so we ended up heading to Cafe Intermezzo to drink something warm. Today was good because I spent quality time with quality people. I enjoyed it! Can't get enough of that junk!

I have a goal to get up before noon tomorrow. I know that sounds somewhat pitiful since most people's days are halfway over by noon, but hey - I'm living a different lifestyle right now.

This week is gonna be a good one. I can feel it!

Night owl

Yooooooooooo. Just got home from a crew shift at the theatre. I was supposed to be on camera, but I ended up suggestionizing and camerafying solo because there was a no-show. It was fun! I hadn't seen a main stage show in a good bit. Hoorah!

I performed on Thursday night and was in some fun scenes - Buzzer Talk Show, Spanish-Dubbed Soap Opera, Sit Stand Lean Oscar, ABC Buzzer Beatnik Poetry, and Musical Styles (Reggae, Blues, Country, Rap). I have an official new favorite game of all time: ABC Buzzer Beatnik Poetry. Oh man! That junk is crazy-fun! My mom came to the show (per usual!) and so did two friends (JM and SLW). Baller!

Well, I've been staying up way too late since this whole hospitalization thing. I gradually stay up later and later and sleep later and later. I've pretty much lost all structure to my days, but I'm going to fix it ASAP. I guess this proves that, when I have it my way, I'm a bit of a night owl. I've always thought that I was a cross between a morning person and a night owl, but someone who slumps in the afternoons. I think I prefer being up late versus going to bed early. See? I wouldn't be having this debate with myself at 1:21 a.m. if I wasn't a night owl.

I don't really feel like saying anything else. I could try to recap the entire week, but it runs together. I went to the doctor and it went pretty well, but I need to see the eye doctor and the neurologist. Umm, my roommate and I went to Willy's on Thursday for lunch, but I think I need it again tomorrow (which is now 'today').

Honestly, I just can't believe October is ending. It feels like it just started... Happy Halloween! I don't like Halloween.

Dinosaurs are my favorite

I have no idea why I am up late looking at dinosaurs online. I am thinking of purchasing a dinosaur t-shirt. Can you tell that maybe I've been removed from the real world for too long?

Well, I had a productive weekend! I ran four miles last night and four again tonight. I haven't done strenuous exercise in a while, so I am definitely feeling it. The fact that I don't believe in stretching also contributes to that, but I don't mind it; it's a constant reminder that I did something worthwhile. I might need to take tomorrow off of exercising if I'm walking like this...

Today my mom came out to see me and we ran some errands. I got a new pair of skinny jeans and some boots. We also got air in my tires and washed my car! Then we went to Starbucks and I got a vanilla latte. It felt like I hadn't been in forever!

Yesterday a longtime friend (SW) came to see me and we went out to lunch. We had such a great time catching up with each other and talking about all sorts of things. It's funny how I can still have so much in common with someone I met 15(ish) years ago. I loved our visit!

I guess I better try to make myself go to sleep.

Leavin' on a MARTA train

Well, I'm getting ready to venture out into the real world for my post-op appointment. I have made the decision to ride MARTA. IT'SMARTA. I was already considering this anyway since I don't feel like driving/parking/paying a fortune, but my decision was confirmed when I was visited last night by what I deem to be the start of a...

MIGRAINE.

It started much like it did the night before the migraine at the hospital. There were holes throughout my vision and it got to where I literally could not read anything. There were also flashes of light - almost like waves. I decided to go to sleep because it was disconcerting to look around when I couldn't see anything clearly. Even with my eyes closed, though, there was a ton of activity. This morning I woke up with a headache, so I took two Excedrin Migraines. I hope the medicine slapped that thing around.

Last night I went to the improv show! I figured that it was the best way to make my post-surgery/hospitalization public debut. My roommate and I went and had so much fun! It was an awesome show. It was the perfect mix of personalities, games, senses of humor, etc. Thank you to my fellow apprenti for making it more-than-worth the journey out of the house!

I don't have much else to say. I've exercised and written a lot this week, so I feel pretty productive. I'm looking forward to the weekend (even though this entire week has been like a weekend)!

Y'all wanna see my bruise???

How redneck is that title?! Anyway, the nurse came by to change my PICC line dressing, and look at that craziness! Perhaps if the nurses saw this, they would understand why I said I was in pain. I am honestly fascinated by this bruise... Let me take another moment of silence to reflect on it.

Today was a really great day. I got up to do my early IV, and then I went back to sleep for a few more hours. I got up and did my breathing treatments, and then my brother and Turk arrived here. We watched Major League, which I really enjoyed. About halfway through the movie, the nurse came by, so it held things up a bit. I really loved the company, and the movie was funny, too! Kevin brought me several movies, so I'll probably watch another one tomorrow.

After the boys left, I decided to go for a walk. It was way too nice to walk on the treadmill, so I walked around in my complex for a while. On my walk, my friend (JM) texted when I was right outside her condo, so we visited for a while. After my walk, my uncle came by with Coldstone (raspberry sorbet with gummy bears). Then the roomie and I hung out for a bit, so I had a great day. Plus, I think the Yankees are about to lose!

Well, I guess I'm about to sign off for the night. I'm going to write for a little while before I go to sleep. Good night, world!

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Vrooooom. Vroooooom.

First and foremost, sorry for the delay. I don't actually think that people care that much, but I do realize that this is how most people have been keeping up with the hospitalization/surgery, so I figured I ought to break the silence.

Well, I got out of the hospital on Friday at around noon. I was having mixed feelings about it, as I usually do when I'm leaving the hospital. I don't exactly know what causes me to feel like I'm on an emotional roller coaster when I'm hospitalized. In a way, the hospital setting is relieving because you get a free pass to feel however you want to feel. At the same time, though, I've noticed that the hospital breeds pity parties, which isn't something that interests me. Anyway, I said all of that to say that the last few days have carried with them many ups and downs - fluctuations that seemed acceptable in the hospital, but are a little harder to carry back into real life.

When we left the hospital, my mom and I went to a few different pharmacies trying to get a handle on the prescriptions that I needed. By the time we got home, I was wiped out and took a nap while my amazing mom went to the grocery store to get me some things. My IV medications got delivered Friday evening and the nurse came by to make sure I had everything under control. I wasn't quite feeling up to being alone, so my mom spent the night with me. We slept on the couches and I was very thankful to have her company.

I sat around a lot on Saturday. We got up and my mom headed back to her house. I took my plethora of medications. Then I sat outside writing for a little bit. I was in a very 'deep' mood, and that has continued into today. Then I took another nap (I'm good at that lately) and my mom came back and took me to my parents' house. It was good to spend one more night with company. My mom and I made a quick stop by my grandmother's house on the way here this afternoon.

I had some visitors today. Two friends from the theatre stopped by (LG and EG), and it was good to talk creative with them. We talked about creative endeavors, but we also talked about life, so I was in hog heaven. PLUS, they brought me some queso from Willy's. AWESOME! Anyway, I really enjoyed their company; it got my creative juices flowing. Another friend (JM) also stopped by for a bit, and I continued my philosophical discussions with her. It's days like today when I remember how fortunate I am to know such caring people.

Tomorrow will be my first would-be-workday at home. I think my brother plans to come by WITH HIS DOG!, so that will be fun. I'm hoping this post-hospital funk has almost passed.

Surgerification

Hello all.

I have been surgerized. I am feeling surprisingly well! I remember feeling much, much worse when I got the surgery back in 2007. I have no idea what could be causing the difference, but I'll take it! Hooray for being well-navigated on the road to recovery.

Today was kind of a blur, as one might imagine. I got picked up from my hospital room at about 9:45 a.m. to head the building for surgery. The wheelchair ride was pretty fun. It's interesting to watch people look at you as they try to figure out what's wrong. I got to the surgery clinic, signed some paperwork, and headed into the OR (on foot, which I found amusing). They gave me some sedatives, but I honestly have no idea when they actually even started with the anesthesia.

When I woke up from surgery, I had no idea what time it was, I felt surprisingly good, and I was chatting with a nice nurse named Anna. I didn't stay down in recovery for very long because I was doing so well already. My transporter came to get me again and took me on a stretcher back to my room. I vaguely remember announcing "kill or be killed" throughout the gurney journey (you like that?).

After I got back to my room, I wanted to eat. SHOCK! My mom went and got me some chocolate frozen yogurt, so that was nice; my throat was a little irritated from the tube they had down it during surgery. I closed my eyes and rested some, but I don't think I ever actually fell asleep. I had a baked potato and a little bit of chicken for dinner, followed up with some cherry-flavored Italian ice. Yum! I've been snacking all night - I'm not sure what's causing this crazy appetite. Cabin fever, perhaps?

Word on the street is that I'm headed home on IVs tomorrow. I'm excited about that because I've been wanting to write, but the hospital has been quite distracting. For example, someone is waxing the floors right now and it's 12:23 a.m. Speaking of, I wonder where the nurse is with my midnight IV...

Thank you to everyone for sending me well wishes for my surgery. They seem to have worked because this is unbelievably easy (knock on wood)!

Mi migraine

To give a quick update since I've fallen off the planet...

I got placed in a room yesterday afternoon, got a PICC line, started on IV antibiotics, etc. I also spent the evening watching the Braves LOSE, but at least I did it with two good friends. My arm was in a lot of pain from the PICC line, so laughing was traumatizing, but I still had a great time. As sad as I am that the Braves are out of the playoffs, we'd been hanging by a thread for far too long. Now I can look forward to 2011 with optimism and a new manager - Fredi Gonzalez.

Did I get to mention yet how much fun I had on Sunday night? Despite the Braves' loss, I was so happy to be a Braves fan. Turner Field was out of control, and I wish it could be like that all the time. We were tomahawk chopping left and right, and I just couldn't have asked for a more memorable evening. Yes, I could have asked for a win, but oh well...

Today was not a very good day. I woke up with the worst headache I've ever had. Unfortunately it wasn't going away, either. I thought it might have been from one of the IV antibiotics I had just finished, but the headache stuck around. I took a Percocet and it didn't help. I then took Tylenol and that didn't really help. Finally, around lunchtime, they started giving me legitimate migraine medicine, and it knocked me out for most of the afternoon/evening. I guess I officially experienced a migraine. Thankfully the pain is very dull right now. I wonder if it was caused by the antibiotics or what...

I've been lucky to have some visitors, and have several folks coming by tomorrow. Today I got some steak nachos from Willy's. AWESOME!

Good night to all...

In the year of 1492

Hello from Admissions at the hospital! I can't wait until the day that I get to the hospital and they're actually ready for me. That would be a lot of fun. Honestly, I've gotten into rooms more quickly when I've come in on a whim versus when planned several days in advance. What's up with that?

HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!

I'll write more later. I'm distracted.
