What a week. WHAT. A. WEEK. It's been a while since I've had a week as eventful as this week. Aaaaand I don't exactly mean that in a good way.
Highlights include:
-Dealing with the cops Sunday morning due to some "malicious mischief"
-Losing my phone and wallet on Tuesday night
-Ruining my hardwood floors Thursday/Friday courtesy of my water heater losing its mind
My phone ended up being in my roommate's coworker's car, so it only took about 12 hours to track that down. My wallet ended up being in the grass at the amphitheater after the Jimmy Buffett concert. It took me way longer than it should have to realize my wallet was missing, but an amphitheater employee called me and I went to retrieve it. Everything looks to be intact, with the exception of someone stealing my cash. Oh well, mo' money, mo' problems.
That's the perfect segue into the fact that I spent almost $800 yesterday on home repairs. I had to get a new water heater and the accessories required to install that, so that totaled almost $300. My mom gave me a card for $25 off a purchase of $250+, so I went and got that cost adjusted today. I also had to pay the $500 deductible for the water mitigation and water damage.
Right now my living room is missing about one-third of its hardwood floor and probably six square feet of sheet rock. My utility closet is missing all of its floor and probably 12 square feet of sheet rock. And, finally, my kitchen is missing the hardwood floor bordering two of the walls. The fans and dehumidifiers are so loud that I'm starting to get a headache. However, they're like a whisper compared to that jackhammer that was tearing up the floor today. RIP you jerk of a water heater.
Let's try to move on to more positive things... I ate Yogli Mogli with my mom today! I worked out yesterday and today, which majorly helped in the destressing department. I also got a check in the mail from my mortgage company, so that was a welcomed surprise in the aftermath of Spendfest Friday. Hooray!
I can't believe it's a holiday weekend. I missed improv rehearsal on Wednesday because I felt like I was getting sick, although I'm pretty sure it was stress bogging me down. In retrospect, it's a major positive that I'm not performing this weekend (except for a festival tomorrow) because it would have been so hectic trying to manage that with all of the home repairs. The weekend has felt insane enough without any obligations. It's pretty ironic because, on Thursday before the water incident, I was running my mouth about how I hadn't had such a lengthy stint without an obligation in as long as I can remember. Enter: water.
Well, I'm gonna try to enjoy the rest of my Saturday night. I think it's about time to take some headache medicine. The Braves are in extra innings right now, and I really think I need to give them some attention.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Feelin' lucky
This weekend has me feeling very fortunate. I'm lucky to know the people that I know and to have the support that I have. Drew's Crew is about to hit $10,000 online, which is well beyond where I expected to be at this time. It's especially surprising because the team is still forming and I haven't put a heavy emphasis on fundraising yet. It's really refreshing to see so many people standing behind me and my cause. Let's cure CF! http://www.cff.org/great_strides/drewdotson5267
Now, for the insane part... As I mentioned in yesterday's post, it was my friend BB's birthday. After I finished working my crew shift at the theatre, a group of us went out to celebrate. We went to a bar in Midtown and did some people watching and things of that nature. When we called it a night, my roommate and I got in my car so I could drive us home since I was the DD (double meaning!).
We were chatting and driving on 400 when I saw a car weaving in my rearview mirror. I was in the center lane of the three-lane highway. It looked like it was about to barrel into the back of my car, and it startled me to the point of yelling. Before I could even realize what was happening, I saw the headlights jerk to the left and I started to brake. The SUV then looked to have lost control and headed toward the cement wall that acts as a median. When the car was literally feet from crashing into the wall, the driver must have spun the wheel to the right, and the SUV crossed directly in front of us (perpendicular to the way of traffic). Thankfully, I was shocked into braking, but a car in the far right lane didn't see this happening and we watched the SUV barrel right into the driver's side door of a truck.
Debris went flying like rain onto our car, and both the truck and the SUV started spinning. I slammed on the brakes so hard that we started to fishtail and head straight for the cement wall/SUV that was bouncing off of the wall. How we made it between the two spinning cars without getting hit is beyond me. It was truly like our lives flashed before our eyes. Both scared speechless and shaking like crazy, I tried to make my way to the side of the road as AH called 911. As AH was fielding questions from the 911 dispatcher, I saw the SUV start to reverse (it ended up facing the wrong direction after bouncing off the wall and back toward the shoulder).
The SUV then started riding up the shoulder behind us and I was hopeful that they were turning around to move the car out of the way and wait for the cops. However, given my experience two months ago, I knew better than to trust that someone would do the right thing. I started yelling that the car was leaving and tried to remember how to put my car in drive. As the SUV went by, I yelled out the first three letters of the license plate, but we were both so shocked that neither of us were functioning to the best of our abilities. When I got the car going, I started trying to follow the SUV. The car got off at the first exit so I started to follow, but I'm positive that they could tell that's what I was doing. The person started (or continued) driving like a maniac. For example, we started to get in a left turn lane right behind them at a red light, and they instinctively got out of the turn lane so they could have a green light and cut across three more lanes of traffic to make a quick right-hand turn. At this point, we realized that catching them was hopeless (and probably dangerous), so we decided to head back down the highway to turn around and get back on heading toward the accident.
When we got back to the scene, people were standing outside of their cars and the truck looked even worse than I'd envisioned. There were items from the bed of the truck on the highway and the whole right side of the truck was practically touching the ground. The tailgate was on the other side of the totaled guard rail, and the metal sound barrier past the guard rail was torn up, too. I was relieved to see that the driver's door was opened and that everyone was standing. We then realized who the driver must have been because there was a lady who was clearly in shock and very emotional.
The cop finally arrived a few minutes after we made it back and, once again, I became the witness to a hit and run. The cop said I would be the primary witness since I was in the middle of it and had seen everything happen. He said that I could expect to hear from the detective regarding the case. I wonder if it will be my same detective friend; I'm quite the magnet! As the cop was getting my number, another group of witnesses started trying to make a love connection, but the cop wasn't having any of that.
I couldn't sleep when we finally got home (after 3:30 a.m.) because it was one of those moments that makes you think about how your life can change in a split second. As my roommate and I walked through the grocery store today, all we (mainly I) could talk about was how that could have played out differently. It's times like these when I think about some angels I know who are breathing easy and looking after me. It was such a frightening experience, and I really can't even put into words how grateful we both feel today.
It makes me think about life and, despite the health battles that I face, I'm not exempt from anything. That was one of the scariest things I've ever seen, and I'm amazed that we were so lucky. It's just a reminder that you can do everything right, but you can't control the crazy things that other people might do. There's obviously no need to live a life of fear, but there's a need to live a life that makes you proud.
Love you all.

Urine trouble
I have urine in my fridge.
Isn't that a good hook? I think I'd have to keep reading if someone started a blog with a line like that. Anyway, I started my 24-hour urine collection at 6:00 p.m. tonight, so I'm five hours into a good time. The worst part is that I have to keep it in this orange jug in the fridge. Mmm, I'm thirsty. Tonight's not a good night to start sleepwalking/drinking.
Today I officially filed my claim with the bank since the jerk's transactions were finalized. I also went and filed my official police report. So, it looks like I've pretty much done everything on my end. I'll have to sign some papers that the bank is sending, but otherwise I'll count on those fraud detectives to make someone's life a living hell. Congratulations on replicating my card. Now punch yourself in the face.
The highlight of my day was Willy's (per usual). Five of us went out to lunch together and I just adored the silly out of my steak nachos. Tonight I drank wine while I watched the Braves win, so that was a win for me as an individual. I also had some macaroni and cheese.
Tomorrow I plan to exercise. I've been feeling really run-down lately. I feel a little feverish or something, and just can't muster up the energy to do much. Exercise seemed to help me get lively yesterday, but I couldn't bring myself to do that today.
That's really all I can say. I am very sleepy.

Givin' Lip
Well, well, well... Where to even begin. I'd say Shoot the Hooch 2010 was a success if I've ever seen one. By the time we got to the end of the course, there were literally cops waiting for us. Now, I'm not a fan of law-breaking and what not, but I've got to admit that I am impressed we could cause so much uproar on a river that there would be cops awaiting our arrival on land. Perhaps this year's pirate theme was appropriate. There were 16 girls, and we sure caused a lot of chaos. I don't think it's smart to negotiate with a cop while wearing a shirt that says "Givin' Lip."
My uncle graciously picked my roommate and I up. However, in our post-Hooch stupor, I forgot that my house key was in my car at the put-in. So, we got home and had to sit outside while my uncle and cousin went to retrieve my car. We successfully made it into the house and were pretty useless for the rest of the night...until Burial 2010.
When my roommate went up to bed, she came down and told me that one of her hamsters had died. Between the way we were feeling and the way she was acting, I was laughing entirely too much about poor Goober. My roommate was talking to Goober's child saying, "Nothing to see here, Peanut, " and "Your mama's not doing so well, Peanut." What an end to our day!
Today I met a few Wolf Camera friends (DH and MS) at the Cheesecake Factory for lunch. I devoured a BLT Blue Cheese Burger and we all split a piece of Snickers cheesecake. It was so fun to catch up and talk about everything under the sun. I love lunches like that. It was the perfect start (and end!) to my Sunday afternoon.
The Braves scored lots o' runs today, so they're still carrying the NL East by five games. Ballllerrrrrr! All of those disappointing seasons feel well-worth it this year.
I guess I'm gonna go get all of my crazy bloodwork done tomorrow afternoon. I have a lunch meeting, but it should be a relatively calm day otherwise.

Roadblock
Yesterday was CRAZY!
My bathing suits shipped! I just went and tracked the package and it appears to be in the ATL. Guess who's getting her bathing suits on time! Awww, snap. Now let's just hope I got the right sizes.
I got up and worked for a while and then decided I wanted to go pick up something from Starbucks, so off I went. I quickly grabbed an Iced White Chocolate Mocha Latte (mwahahaha!), which kicked the day off right.
Then, for my lunch hour, I went to the fitness center where I witnessed a miracle. I'm being overdramatic, but I did run 3.36 miles without ever even slowing down. In fact, I increased the speed after two miles. Usually I end up standing on the side of the treadmill for a few seconds several times, or may even turn the pace a little slower for a bit. Yesterday, I was ON FIRE! I honestly couldn't believe how energetic and unfazed I was. There wasn't a single moment when I thought I needed to stop. In fact, I only stopped because I needed to get back home. Maybe Starbucks for breakfast helped...
The afternoon was consumed with work changes that are under way that I'm probably not allowed to mention. It's good, though.
At this point it was almost time for the Braves game debacle. Well, I had a drink or two before we hopped on MARTA to ride down to the game. It was raining when we got on MARTA, and my sister decided we should bring an umbrella. I'm very glad she did because I said I was willing to tough it out, but didn't realize it was going to be a monsoon. When we got down to the Five Points station to hop on the bus to the stadium, it was raining so unbelievably hard. Everyone was standing under the awning waiting for it to stop, but we made a run for it with the umbrella. It was a pretty bad call because we were sloshing water everywhere. Then, I proceeded to get on the bus and sit in a seat next to a leaking window, so I sat in water and it continued streaming in the window and getting on my pants. We moved across the aisle.
We got off the bus and hurried to a covered portion at one of the ticket gates. Our parents were in a parking lot tailgating (inside the truck) nearby. We were going to wait it out because we didn't think we should even try the long walk in the pouring, horizontal rain. Well, I asked the Atlanta Police Department officer if we could drink beers and he said no because we were in public. So we decided we were ready to venture to the truck. Our dad met us halfway, but it was a long journey. We got to the car and I ate a footlong (yes!) Publix sub. I also drank three Bud Light Limes. Finally, at about 8:45 p.m., it seemed to be clearing up so we headed to the stadium.
Thankfully our seats were in the club level and were covered. The game was a good one, and I improved my seasonal record to 3-0. It was 7-3 in the top of the 9th with one out when the bottom fell out of the sky. So, they called a rain delay at about 11:30 p.m. I wanted to stay and wait it out, but then they announced that the Friday night fireworks were canceled due to a noise ordinance (since it had gotten so late). With that information, I really didn't push back on my family because they were ready to go.
We took the long journey back on MARTA and got in the car a little after 12:30 a.m. Well, when we got to my sister's place, there were tons and tons of cop cars on the road. It appeared we had stumbled upon a roadblock. It was just past my sister's place and just before mine (we live less than .2 miles apart). They were letting cars through one at a time and talking to everyone, so needless to say, I did not feel prepared to drive. Instead, I fell asleep on my sister's couch. I woke up at about 1:30 a.m. and went outside to look. The roadblock was still in-process. So, I went back to sleep again and got up at 3:30 a.m., just in time to realize I'd missed my vanilla for the first time since the study began. Oops. Stupid cops. I finally headed the .2 mile home since the cops were done.
Is it just me or am I interacting with a lot of cops lately?
I'm getting ready to go down to the theatre for a lengthy shift on camera. Let's. Get. Energized!

Get a life!
Oohhhhhhhh MAN! I just got home from performing not too long ago. It was a really small crowd (Memorial Day), but it was fun. I had a good time! I played Buzzer Debate (Barbara Buchanan), Sounds Like a Song/Rap, Remote Control, Script in Hand (off book), and Musical Styles. The show was a lot of fun. I was out in the cafe afterwards and this dude came up and made some crack about how I should get singing lessons. He should be glad it took me a second to process what he said or I would have made a sassy remark back to him. I could name about 30 or 58 comebacks I've already thought of, but I'll keep them to myself. He was laughing when he said it so I think he was being Mr. I-Think-I-Need-To-Be-Funny-Because-I'm-At-A-Comedy-Theater and didn't mean any ill-will. Either way, he was dressed like a farmer.
I went to the gym for a hot second this morning. I should have done something more vigorous, but whatever. I was tired. I'll make up for it tomorrow.
Well, I almost got nailed by a cop car tonight, so that was exhilarating. Some cops were all pulled over with their lights on stopping these two guys walking and carrying what looked to be liquor store bags. One cop passed by the incident and then decided to make a right turn from the inside lane when I was in the far right lane. I literally had to slam on the brakes and barely missed him. My left hand reached up to honk out of instinct, but (like my car) my hand came to a screeching halt because I can't imagine a cop enjoying being honked at in front of all of his friends. My heart was pounding the rest of the way home because it was so close.
I had Willy's steak nachos with a friend today. Oh my heavens.
I can't tell yet who's going to with the bathing suit race - me or Victoria's Secret. They haven't shipped yet, so I'm still on the fence about whether or not I'll have them in time for the trip. This is called living life on the edge, children!
What else? I went to a three-hour training session today and about gouged my eyeballs out. The content itself wasn't horrendous, but sometimes things click too quickly for me to stay focused.
Big weekend ahead. I'm so excited for the holiday weekend. I hope we get out of work early tomorrow. I'll be telecommuting anyway, but it would be nice to have that surprise.

Bite me
I have had some weeeeeird dreams lately - some good, some bad. I usually don't have bad dreams, but I've had several over the last few weeks. I had a dream a week or two ago that a penguin was biting my arm. It literally would not let go of my arm and I was yelling and trying to shake it off. It was a very tiny penguin, by the way. Then it kind of reminded me that I've had several dreams about my arm getting bitten in the last sixth months. The penguin dream caused me to remember the others.
I looked up what it means to be bitten: To dream that you are being bitten represents your vulnerability regarding some unresolved issues or emotions. You may be pestered by a problem or obstacle. The dream may also be a metaphor indicating that you have bitten off more than you can chew. Perhaps you have too much to handle.
Story of my life = burning the candle from both ends.
Then I looked up what a penguin means: To see a penguin in your dream signifies that your problems are not as serious as you may think. It serves as a reminder for you to keep your cool and remain level-headed. Alternatively, a penguin seen in your dream suggests that you are being weighed down by your emotions or by a negative situation. You need to find some balance and inner harmony.
So, individually, I think biting off more than I can chew is an accurate assessment. And, I think I need to find some balance and inner harmony. I'm not exactly sure how the two combine to make sense and my mind can't even begin to comprehend, but they make sense separately.
While that's an unusual dream, it's not nearly as bad as the dream I had Wednesday night. I was driving to work on roads that were unfamiliar. A few cop cars whipped out of nowhere, cops got old, and signaled for me to get down - that a gunman was on the loose. I stopped my car in the middle of an intersection and balled myself up down at the foot of the driver's side to hide. The gunman came up to my window and we made eye contact. He pointed the gun at me. However, he decided instead that he would somehow put a match to the gas tank and start the car. I woke up right as he was doing this and before the car exploded with me inside of it.
At least that's not disturbing... Oh, wait. I'm not sure what it all means, but it definitely implies that there are some negative things floating around inside.
Lunch was fun today. We got to talk about my favorite things: LIFE and PHILOSOPHY. WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!
Today I found out that next Thursday's improv show is a private mainstage show. Needless to say, I was a little bummed because I was hoping to be in the show next week since I was on crew this week. The bright side of it, though, is that we don't have rehearsal on Monday, and Wednesday is canceled, too, due to another private show. As much as a part of me is disappointed because I love improv, I am relieved to have bought some time back into my week. After all, that's what I've been battling lately. Time and penguins.
Two things that I recently discovered I love: Haribo Happy Colas and Tostitos Hint of Lime chips.
Oh, and the title 'Bite me' was in reference to the dreams, although it developed a second meaning. When I went to post this, there was some kind of error and I lost everything but the first paragraph, so I've tried to remember what I said (which is hard when it's worthless babble). If this doesn't post, someone from Blogger is getting hurt.
