Onions have layers

It appears to be bedtime. Yes, it's about 9:37 on a Friday night and I'm calling it quits. My tiredness from the week has finally caught up to me.

So, as I suggested in the tiny post on Tuesday, I had an amazing birthday. I have just felt so supported over the recent weeks, and my birthday took the cake. HAAA! Birthday pun. Anyway, as I believe I'd mentioned, I set a goal to raise $2,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on my birthday. Well, Drew's Crew ended up raising about $4,000 in a 24-hour period instead. I can't even begin to explain how incredible that felt.

I ended up treating myself to a massage on my birthday. I don't ever do anything like that, so it was awesome to do something pamper-esque. It's funny because my massage therapist said that my back was like a brick wall. She said she usually tells people to drink a bottle of water after the massage, but she recommended I drink a gallon. It's hard to believe, but I'm still extremely sore from it; I feel good, though! I felt like I was on another planet for a few hours after the massage. I guess I'm quite the toxin machine.

Me, AH, KW, and my mom went to El Azteca for my birthday dinner and the lady brought me a tequila shot. I took a sip and poured the rest into my margarita while the fire in my mouth died down. After dinner we headed down to the Fox to see Shrek the Musical. It was so much fun! I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone. I love Donkey!

I am about to doze off, so I will do a brief summary of the rest of the week...
Wednesday: Cortisone and tornadoes (sending thoughts to everyone affected)
Thursday: Termite chemicals and margaritas
Friday: Target and Oreo cheesecake

I finally had my white powdered donuts for breakfast this morning. I feel intense satisfaction after having had that craving for a few months.

The return to normalcy

Boy, it hasn't been easy, but life is almost back to normal...

Thursday.

An indifferent day. I went to eat lunch with my former boss at Maddio's, which was a highlight of the day. I also picked up a few prescriptions from Target, which wasn't a highlight, but was necessary. Finally, I called the guy at the dealership to see if my car was ready and, DING-DING-DING, it was. I headed to the gas station to re-gas the rental car. I looked like a silly goose trying to figure out which side the gas thingy was on. Then, I ended up pumping gas twice because I had to turn the car on to see how I was looking fuel-wise without unnecessarily giving Enterprise free gas.

I got to Enterprise and my insurance company had canceled my rental car claim. SURPRISE! Another thing to resolve! Thankfully that fell to the hands of the Enterprise workers, and I got taken back to the dealership to get my car. They tried to run my debit card and, for some reason, it said a referral was needed for the purchase. We tried again and got the same message. I called Bank of America and I guess they were trying to protect me from identity theft, and I reassured that it was me making the charges. However, between the two pending charges at the gas station and the two $500 charges at the car place, I guess a hold was placed on my card. I didn't have my checkbook or any other form of payment, so I literally had to have my uncle come bail me out of the car place. I think that was the final complication until further notice.

Thursday night I went out to Cheesebuger in Paradise and Taco Mac. I had a swell time.

Friday.

Friday was largely uneventful. I worked from home (on my sister's borrowed laptop), and got a lot accomplished. Not a lot really happened until the point that I went to El Toro with my sister. I came home and watched the Braves beat the Mets (awww, YEAH!). Then, I made a split-second decision to go out for some drinks. I stayed up/out entirely too late, but I had a wonderful time. I am a sleepy thing.

Saturday.

Today is Saturday. I have done many things today, including getting my hair done and buying a new computer. I haven't taken the laptop out of the box yet, but all that matters is that it's my favorite color. I don't even care what it's capable of as long as it continues to be a beautiful aqua. I'm gonna open that bad boy after I get back from Starbucks.

Have a great night, world!

A story

I woke up Saturday morning feeling sad about leaving, but satisfied with the trip. We ate some breakfast and headed to the airport to fly back to Atlanta. As we headed to the Spirit counter, we noticed that every screen said FLIGHT CANCELLED. I was praying this wasn't accurate until I heard the people in front of us using expletives. At that point, we were terrified.

We walked up to the counter and asked why our flight was canceled (I prefer one L). The representative said that they couldn't get an aircraft there. We asked when they'd be able to get an aircraft there, and they said they didn't know. At that point, the workers told us we would get a FULL reimbursement for our round trip and would just have to book a flight home on another airline.

I started getting feisty with the guy asking him if he would just book my flight himself. Believe it or not, he offered for me to stay at his house. He told me we could call his wife to see if I could stay there. NO THANK YOU. So, we headed over to the Delta counter to figure out another flight home. At this point, I was trying to decide if I should head to Atlanta or to Jacksonville, Florida since I'd be heading there first thing on Sunday morning. The flight to Jacksonville wasn't much more than the flight to Atlanta, so I went ahead and opted for the Jacksonville route, even though I'd stop in Atlanta. Mind you that I've now spent another $800 to get home, when my original round trip was only $640.

Spirit neglected to mention that its pilots were on strike, but one of the workers secretly informed my friend. When we landed in Atlanta, though, and used Google, the top result for Spirit was informing us of the pilot strike - the first one in at least five years or something. Now that's some good luck. If anyone I know ever books on Spirit, we will no longer be friends.

The Delta flight to Atlanta took off almost an hour later than expected. Then, when we landed in Atlanta, I knew I was starting to cut it close with my Jacksonville flight. When I finally got off the plane, I had to go get my bag to go through Customs in Atlanta before heading to Florida. However, my bag was nowhere to be found and my plane was boarding. A worker suggested that I just leave without it and figure it out when I land in Florida. I then busted into a movie-like expedition through the airport, literally sprinting and knocking people out of the way.

When I got to security, I just ran up to the first worker I saw and asked if I could go to the front of the line. The guy guided me through the line, unhooking chains to let me through to the very front. No questions asked. I've never felt faster than I did running on the moving walkway. When I ran off the moving walkway I almost slammed into the wall in front of me because I still had such momentum. I can't think of a time that I worked out so hard. Maybe I should start carrying a 15-pound bag when I do sprints on the treadmill.

I got to my gate 30 minutes after boarding started (8 minutes before takeoff), and there was not a soul in sight. I ran up to the counter and handed the two ladies my boarding pass, at which point they said that they thought I was an unaccompanied minor. Then they started talking about how 'tiny' I am and, after simply staring at them through all of this, I just asked if I could get on the airplane. They said yes. I got on the plane looking so frazzled and made my anti-Spirit announcement for the plane to hear.

The flight was nice. I talked to a 69-year-old named Mary who said she wished her sons were younger so I could date them. When I arrived in Jacksonville, I stood hopelessly at baggage claim waiting for the bag that I knew was probably nowhere to be found. After the place cleared out (and I was the only one left waiting, again), I went to the baggage claim office to learn that my bag was at JFK airport in New York City. At that point, I really didn't even care.

A nice man named Carl brought my suitcase by yesterday at about 3:30 p.m. I did go to Target to take advantage of Delta's $50-in-the-first-24-hours-of-baglessness policy, so I got a new shirt, a pair of shorts, and some other miscellaneous stuff. Lordy.

All that being said, the trip was wonderful. I can't believe that I still have another week left. This is the way to do it! I literally haven't thought about work the entire trip. I used to like the idea of a bunch of long weekend trips versus using vacation days all at once. The thing about the long weekends, though, is that you're not far enough removed to ever really feel dissociated from work.

Today should be a great day since I have a bathing suit. Although, if I were in the Dominican Republic, having a bathing suit would be irrelevant.

More to come...

Rain makes corn

I am watching my boys win a baseball game against the Dodgers right now. It's 3-0 in an inning that I can't see without my glasses... I think it could be the fifth. I am so proud of the Braves right now!

Well, I am almost done packing for the Dominican. I have no idea what I'm going to need, but I think I've gotten the bathing suits and lounging clothes covered. I'm kind of paranoid about medicine, having appropriate attire, etc. I figure I'm going to be in paradise, though, so I shouldn't need much. Only time will tell if I'm correct...

Today I went to Target to try to get some prescriptions before I leave on my journey. I dropped them off on Tuesday, and I got there today and spent literally an hour negotiating with them to get it all figured out. At the end of it all, I got 1 1/2 of my three prescriptions. The only one that I got fully was the one that I won't need unless I get sick - the antibiotic. Even mentioning the word 'sick' makes me sick(!) right now because that's not my vision of the perfect vacation, but you never know. I didn't wake up feeling very good today, and I've sneezed about 15 times. I think this signals that I'm at the end of this going-nonstop stretch.

What else? I met my brother at Monterrey today for lunch. I got an order of grilled steak quesadillas and they were SUPERB! That's not exactly the diet of a person who's about to be wearing bikinis, but whatever. They were awesome!

Speaking of bikinis, I got both of my Victoria's Secret bathing suits yesterday. I wish they fit better than they did, but there's not much I can do about it now. One of them is a little disfigured from the way it was packaged for shipping, and the other just isn't very flattering. I don't think it's merchandise issues. Instead it is being-hard-on-myself issues, so I will probably get over it when I'm at the beach. I really haven't worn a bathing suit yet this year, except at the Dierks concert, but I was wearing a cover-up dress over it the entire time. Blaaaaah, blaaaaah.

I exercised tonight. I didn't push myself as hard as I'd have liked, but my SC joint has really been bothering me for almost two weeks. I've had radiating pain in the area for a little while now, and it has literally kept me up at night because I couldn't get comfortable. It's a weird heating sensation. I guess that's on the to-do list for when I return if I don't experience a miraculous recovery while I'm away. Maybe I'm due for another Cortisone injection. Ouch.

Time to get ready for bed. I've got a lot to accomplish at work tomorrow. On top of that, I have to work at the theatre tomorrow night. I can do it!!!

Marathon

If you couldn't tell by my lack of posting, this weekend has truly been a marathon. I am going to do my best to fill in the things that have happened since last Thursday...

Friday I worked from home (YAY!). On my lunch hour, I ran to Target to pick up a prescription and look for a dress to wear to the wedding. I had one or two at home that I considered wearing, but I didn't know how appropriate they'd be. So, being the bargain shopper that I am, I ended up grabbing one at Ross, along with some dressy flip flops (not to wear to the wedding). The dress itself was a color called Very Fuschia and was really cute. I found some Ann Taylor flip flops (size 5!) that are black and leather. They're pretty hot!

Then, Friday afternoon involved finishing the ceiling fan project and cleaning up a bit before heading down to my shift at the theatre. I was doing suggestions and camera and had a good time. The thing I love most about improv is that it's always changing. Each show is so different! Oh, I also worked out on Friday, so I've been doing really well with that!

Saturday morning I got up and helped my new roommate move in... Yeehaw! I was amazed at how quickly we did it. My mom and I ran some errands and I came back home to try to nap to fuel up for the wedding. After my nap I went to the gym and got in a good workout before showering and getting ready for the wedding.

The wedding was a blast. The bride (LZ) looked absolutely beautiful. There was a simple elegance to the whole thing. It was a little humorous because the minister was late to the wedding. That made for some awkward moments as everyone was standing at the altar looking around for him. He said his watch stopped... Interesting. He also accidentally called the groom Greg (instead of Chris). Hmm...Then we headed to the reception which was a ball. I had entirely too many drinks and even got on the dance floor. It was just a really good time!

We got back to KQ's place just before midnight and AH met us to go out. Yes, we made a whole night of it. An incompetent cab driver took us to Buckhead, where we had a good time. We got there so late that we didn't have much time to hang out, but we had fun! AH drove us back home and we left my car at KQ's. I went to bed at close to 4:00 a.m.

Today we got up and were back at it again (me, KQ, AH), getting ready for today's concert. Let me tell you that we were not prepared for today's concert. It had a 3:00 p.m. start time, so I figured we'd be home by about 6:00 p.m. at the latest. Shortly after getting to Lake Lanier in the SWELTERING HEAT, Miss Georgia (weird) made a comment about how she would be announcing all of the performers 'this afternoon and tonight.' At that point, we realized we were in it for the long haul. I saw so many people - Corey Smith, Drivin' n' Cryin', Chris Janson, Jeff Foxworthy (what?), and DIERKS BENTLEY!

Let me tell you... I've never been to a lot of stand-up or anything like that, and I really am not that familiar with Jeff Foxworthy. I gotta say, though, that I was cracking up the entire time. He was really, really funny. He did this bit about how people with bad breath always talk the closest to you. I'm gonna botch this up, but he said something like, "They'll be like 'what's up' and you're like 'you ate a dirty diaper.'"

My favorite singers of the day were Corey Smith and Dierks Bentley (of course). It was a really great concert, but I could have stood a heads up on the fact that it was going to last six hours. We were sitting on beach towels in the sand, sweating our lives away. I had a good time, though, and got a little sun, which is nice.

That brings me to right here, right now. I just got home less than an hour ago. I don't really have many study observations to make. I'm not feeling very different, but I've also had a really weird, exhausting, sleep-depriving weekend, so there's a lot of factors up in the air. We'll see how I feel on a regular workweek. Mwahahaha!

I wear my sunglizzles at night

I keep forgetting to mention this new shirt I got at Target last week(ish). It's fresh on my mind because I might wear it in tomorrow's show. I got it for $4! It has sunglasses on it, hence the title of this post. It has six or eight pairs of sunglasses on it, and it's kinda cute-like. I love me some cheap junk.

So, let me tell you more about being a terrorist for the last 24 hours. I'm surprised at how well I slept last night. Now, I keep forgetting that I took an AdvilPM, which could have been a big contributor, but man, I slept like a log! I am also relieved by how nonchokered I felt. It was pretty awesome! That brings me to my next breaking news topic...

I have come up with a new invention. I am going to post it out for the world to see, and then sue you when you take my idea. It's a pillow that dangles from your body. Now, give me a minute to explain. I think the strap will velcro across your torso right underneath your arms to prevent any strain from being on one area in particular. The pillow will then dangle down to one side, with the top of the pillow hitting waist height. Are you with me?

That's basically how I was all day. I wore the bomber vest, but instead of putting the machine back into the fanny pack, I left it inside its pillow. It brought a whole new perspective to life. Everywhere I went, I was comfortable because there was a pillow attached to me. As I walked, I naturally held on to the pillow and felt so comfy and safe, like a child. The pillow also acted as a portable lap desk for my laptop, which was really convenient. I know this is probably sounding crazy, but I bet someone said that about the Snuggie years ago. I'm still thinking of a name, but I promise it was awesome. I'm not being facetious at all; I felt so protected and at-ease all day.

My friend brought me Moe's today! Guess what I had?! STEAK NACHOS! We had a nice visit over lunch, and it was so awesome to have some human interaction AND some delicious food during a period in which I wasn't going to have any of that. It was good to catch up and talk life!

Umm, what else? I made some revelations today when I met my friend at Starbucks. I'm excited about them, so I hope I don't forget them. Maybe then I can have re-revelations.

Well, I gotta get to bed. I have a big morning ahead of me. I plan to get up and exercise for a bit first thing. Then, on the way to Emory, I have to stop at the grocery store to get a few items for a colleague's bridal shower tomorrow. However, I have a study appointment at 8:30 a.m., so I'll head straight there. I am fasting right now. I'm not sure how long all of tomorrow will take, but then I'll go into work until I have to head down to the SHOW! I am excited to be in the show! Even though it hasn't been very long, it sure feels like it. Adddddddiction.

Drew's Crew: $13,350!

I got a neat present tonight, too. The birthday that keeps on giving! It is a dream journal and a book to interpret my dreams. I am going to start documenting my dreams on paper using the journal. I remember when I was younger I'd keep a pad by my bed and would often be able to catch my dreams before they escaped me in the morning. It was hilarious going back and looking what I wrote later in the day when I had completely forgotten that I'd logged the dream. I hope I get a good one tonight! Oh, the pressure!

Eat, Pray, Love

Well, I have a dentist's appointment this morning. I am not really looking forward to it, but I'm not exactly dreading it either. The dentist is something I could take or leave and I wouldn't care much either way.

Yesterday was an interesting day. Around 2:30 p.m., I got an email from the study guy to get me up-to-speed. He basically told me that, while he doesn't think that Tuesday's shenanigans will necessarily exclude me from the study, he did talk to my doctor and she wants to 'treat' me. Mind you I never saw my regular doctor on Tuesday. The study guy told me that the doctor or physician's assistant would call me to get me started. However, that didn't happen yesterday. By the end of the day, I decided to give them a call, but did not succeed. I'm not sure if 'treating' me involves a course of antibiotics, whether those would be oral or IV, etc. I guess I shall find out today.

I was coughing kind of a lot, but it was a dry, hacky cough - the kind that results in almost losing your voice. By the end of the day, my voice was really scratchy, which is completely different from the kinds of symptoms I get when it's a CF-related problem. Anyway, I will take what the doctor says into consideration, but we don't need to get all out-of-hand here; this happens to me every year as the weather starts to change.

Despite how I was feeling, I ended up meeting a friend for dinner at Tin Drum. Let me tell you that this was a great decision. I got this sweet and sour stir-fry, and will be enjoying the leftovers for lunch. Anyway, I saw my friend Karen that I hadn't seen since 2008, and it was really nice to see her again. We talked about everything under the sun, and that's why I like about her most. We have a connection... not in a romantic way. (HA!) She told me I should really read "Eat, Pray, Love."

After we finished eating, I knew it was time for me to head home and get to bed, but I instead went to Target to get the book. I am working on being quick-to-action (not in a rash way - in a non-procrastination way). I ended up getting the book, a cute t-shirt, a black zip-up sweater type thing, and a prescription. I consider it successful.

I gotta hurry and get ready so I can go 'get my tooth' on at the dentist.

Heeeeeeeartbreak waaaaaaaaarfare

Well, today has been quite the Monday. Portions of it felt Mondayesque, but I'm happy for it to be ending on a positive note. I'm feeling refreshed, tired, and ready for a good night's sleep!

The most exciting thing that happened today was that I went to Target during my lunch hour. I had to pick up a prescription, so I figured I'd browse while I was at it. I got some vitamins that I've been meaning to get, and I also got some snacks to nibble on at work. I also got a shirt and a hat, and I'm excited about both. I have the same shirt in purple and it tends to do me well, so I got it in gray, too. I also got a little brown hat. I'm not sure what this type of hat is called, but it's a kind of cute hat I can wear when I feel like being nappy.

Work was fairly busy today. I had a couple of meetings, but nothing compared to the rest of the week. I have probably 14 hours of meetings this week, which makes it pretty difficult to accomplish the things I need to accomplish. Oh well, though... My biggest concern is that I need to be in the office on Friday for a big meeting, so I'll have to forfeit my telecommute day. Blaaaaah! Our intern starts tomorrow, so it will be fun to have a fresh face in the office.

Well, I don't have a lot to say, mainly because I'm too tired. I wanted to work on my book a little tonight because I'm still feeling energized from yesterday, but it shall wait until tomorrow so I can make it an early morning at work.

Bulletproof

Well, the week hasn't improved much since Monday, but the good news is that I am alive and surviving. I somehow feel like switching from 2009 to 2010 will make me feel refreshed, although that's kind of crazy and unrealistic. Oh well... Maybe the two shortened workweeks will give me some time to take it easy. I don't think I'm going to take any days off; I prefer to hoard my vacation days.

Yesterday I got one of my favorite compliments of all-time... I was told I am bulletproof. Now, I realize that could be backhanded if said in the wrong context, but I was very flattered to hear it. I think I have gotten much more bulletproof over the last year or so. Can't nobody stop me!

Today I went to Target and got two Christmas gifts for people on my list. I think they'll like them... primarily because I was given direct instructions and no additional options. Merry Christmas! I also picked up two prescriptions, so I made a whole trip out of it. As much as I love Target, I hate shopping in general, so I'm pleased I made it through the experience without getting too angry.

Tonight at improv we didn't actually rehearse, which was probably in my best interest. I don't know what's up with me this week, but I haven't felt this wound up and unfocused in quite a while. Tomorrow should be a relaxing night if all goes as planned to be worthless. Then, I'm at the theatre Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. So I'm bracing myself for a busy weekend.

I exercised yesterday and today...round of applause. Yesterday I really kicked it into high gear and did a combination of sprints and the Stairmaster. I got riled up enough that it was difficult to go to bed. That's probably a better exercise routine for waking up rather than winding down. Today I just did the elliptical at work, so I didn't get myself into hardcore mode. Oh well, I still got in some quality exercise.

My eyes are telling me it's bedtime, so perhaps I'll listen. Good night!

Hooooooold My Hand

That title is me singing Hootie and the Blowish. I picked one of my mom's favorite artists to create a Pandora station while we get ready to leave for Thanksgiving festivities.

We had family Bunco competition last night and I got destroyed, as usual. Bunco is a dice-rolling game that truly involves nothing but luck. I just never have the luck when we play. You can win money for winning and for losing, but I'm always right in the middle. I'm not lucky enough, and not unlucky enough. Eh, I guess that's a good problem to have.

Yesterday I hit the jackpot at Target. I got 8 new articles of clothing. I am wearing one of my new shirts today. I was on a mission to find long-sleeved shirts because I have a plethora of short-sleeved shirts, but alternate between the same few long-sleeved things I like. Yeeeeeehaw!

Today we are stopping by Grandmama and Granddaddy's place, then heading to Gran's to eat. The thing I'm most looking forward to is Gran's mashed potatoes and Mom's apple cobbler. I could do with or without the turkey, but I'll probably slosh some hot sauce on it or something to make it flavorful. Turkey is just so.... turkey.

Well, I'm going to do my usual making-everyone-late thing if I don't hurry and go finish making my hair strizzaight. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Derailed

I just finished reading a book. I got it at Target on Monday during my lunch break. I'm not going to type the name of it because I'm about to bad-mouth it and, being an aspiring author, I will preserve the title of the book because someone out there is extremely proud of it. Plus, I know there are millions and millions of people reading my blog. NOT. Anyways, I thought the book was somewhat contrived. Almost nothing about the book seemed natural; it all seemed so forced and researched in my opinion, which is ironic considering the book was fiction.

You know when you see those movies and you feel like the writer simply threw an ending together because he got sick of it? Well, that seemed like this entire book. Most of the storytelling seemed arbitrary and had a forced quirkiness about it. It just didn't seem as though it was written from the heart and I personally find that to be one of the most important characteristics defining a good book. I feel like, as you close a book, you should feel that you've learned something, but all I seem to have learned from this is that a good plot can be derailed within pages.

This weekend was so relaxing and productive, if I must say so myself. I exercised both Saturday and today. Yesterday, I went to the mall with my mom to spend some gift cards I've had for entirely too long. I used a Macy's gift card from my college graduation (December 2007) to buy a cute black and white pea coat. Then, I used a Sears gift card I got for complaining about a scratch on my stainless steel fridge to purchase a set of adjustable weights. Yep, I've gotten pretty buff since yesterday. I spent Saturday night cleaning my room and doing laundry like a social butterfly.

Today I went to Kroger, where I saved almost $22 with my Kroger Plus Card. Now that's bargain shopping! I hadn't been full-fledged grocery shopping in quite some time, so it's nice to have a decent assortment of things in my fridge/freezer. It had grown to become quite pathetic, much like a fridge in an apartment belonging to college students. Right now I'm probably most excited about this Espresso Chip ice cream I got. I surprisingly only ate a few spoonfuls of it today, but I'm sure it will disappear somewhat rapidly during the week.

Georgia Tech moved up to number 7 in the BCS rankings, so I'm very happy about that! The Atlanta Falcons also won today, so that was enjoyable. It was a successful weekend for my football teams.

Tomorrow we will REALLY watch the DVD of our improv show. I'm worried I'll be overly self-critical, but it will only make me better. This week is going to be crazy busy at work, so I better start winding down. There literally aren't enough hours in the workday to accomplish everything that needs to be done.
